I had an earlier thread going, but I wanted to start a fresh one. Sorry. :D Do you use 5.5" or 6.5" foam pads? Can the PE handle 6.5" pads, no problem?

Either is no prob. Let the car decide what to use. ;)

I personally prefer 5 1/2 inch pads but it has plenty of power to handle the 6 1/2. I just find the smaller pads easier to maneuver.

Awesome! Thanks guys. I haven't tried 6.5" yet, but I wanted to make sure it has the "balls" to handle them! :D

I use up to an 8 in pad/wool. I also use 6in B&S with flex BP and feel that works the best. No problems in power at all. Its so quiet that sometimes you feel like its not working or turning fast enough lol

I've read on MOL that smaller pads are (obviously) easier to control, so when I start doing my rotary I'll use 5.5" for the above reason.

I use both 5.5 & 6.5 on almost every polish job, there is plenty of power for the larger pads.

I've noticed that I can slow the pad down much easier(with pressure) with the PE14 compared to the 3401. Why is that? They're both forced rotation, right?

But do you have the "balls" to handle them?

:D
Jk Mark
I'm a big dawg if you haven't noticed! :D

That's what the warranty is for.

:bolt:

LOL Mark. I'll step on you!

Nice 50/50 shot tho! :props:

Hmmm, that's odd. For what it's worth, I don't really push down on the rotary at all. Only enough to keep it from wanting to hop and to maintain control. I've also read that you're supposed to let the machine do the work (by not adding weight to it).

Mark...I think I'm sticking with 5.5" pads. I am going to give the Flex a spin tomorrow on my dad's car.

That's my understanding too, no pushing down/pressure at all.

The Flex PE14 is a nice little machine. I used the term "little" because it's a smaller more compact polisher than my Makita 9227. This compact size for some creates the sense of a lightweight machine for those smaller tasks but this is far from reality.

The Flex PE14 is a very robust and powerful machine. It's well engineered and the build quality is superb. The Flex PE14 is very well balanced and I can easily one-hand it on flat panels.

I've found that the Flex PE14 is right at home with foam pads ranging from 5 1/2 inch flats all the way up to 7 inch Kompressor pads. Naturally with the larger pads you'll have to hand on to the machine with a bit more grip doe to the motors torque and increased surface area....

You'll have no issues at all Mark....:props:
