My makita died in my arm today while doing a car, I have what ? 6 hours to decide if I put the trigger on the new flex or the new dewalt.

I know the dewalt is really new so I might have a hard time getting revew but how bout the flex pe150 ? is it really worth the extra 150$ lol ?

Thanks!:buffing:

I can't really answer for you but the Flex is much lighter than the Dewalt IIRC.

I feel like I would like the dewalt. However, i can't get the dewalt in 2 days but I can get the flex in 2 days.

Actually, I can get the dewalt in 2 days but shipping would be 50$ for a total of 250$ which turn me off when I know I can get it for cheaper. on the other end, it's still 130$ cheaper than the flex.

Ummm is the flex that good of a machine to justify all this? or it's more hype than anything else.

I guess you gotta wait for Mike Phillips to review the Dewalt...I know he really likes that Flex.

What sort of jobs do you usually do with your rotary? Do you tend to rely on it for an entire correction/detail or do you also use a DA?

This is a key question that you need to ask yourself or answer. I was once told that if you plan to do corrections on known hard clears such as Corvettes, Benz, even gelcoat on boats, you are going to want a heavy duty rotary. My vote goes to the DeWalt DWP849X for 2 reasons: it's a heavier duty rotary that can handle anything you throw at it, and it's capable of a broader rpm range than the Flex PE-14 should you need it. Both machines dip down to 600rpm but the power of the DWP849X is far superior.

With that being said, see what Mike P. has to say :).

I posted some initial thoughts here...

Bumblebee

For some reason when I look at the new DWP849X I think of Bumblebee

Another question to ask yourself is what size pads will you be using? It seems the PE-14 would be an ideal choice if you're going to use 5.5" pads. The flex is smaller and a pound lighter than the dewalt, giving you a smaller profiled more easily controlled machine.

bought the dewalt. I use 6.5. never went bigger.

what BP do you use with 6.5in pads. i have a whole stack of ccs pads i dont use with my PC.

Well, looks like im subscribing to ANOTHER thread...i think we all forgot something here however...to pay homage to this mans makita...which died in his arms giving him its last dying rotation... please...a moment of silence for the Makita...

:iagree: My Makita 9227c is the best powertool I have ever used. Ever. It's smooth, light, quiet, powerful, ergonomic and all around just a solid solid tool, no, great! Although my experience with powertools is a little limited so take my sentiments with a grain of salt. I also still remember a Makita circular saw my pops owned many years ago. That tool was freakin awesome!!! Every now and then when we become nostalgic, we'll wax poetic about it endlessly. He lent it to my brother-in-law a few years ago and we never saw it again. :(

Hahaha thanks man...just thought id give it its just due. I dont even know what rotary im gonna get for my first. Makita seems to be like the PC of the rotary world..the 'standard' if you will that you'd never be disappointed in..but now the new X has me interested..and the small profile of the Flex has me interested too...but i think mainly its between makita and dewalt...a classic standoff in the tool world lol

tried both and dewalt is my go to go now. my makita was sent to a rebuilt center but when i get it backit will be my backup.

So what features made you make the switch..and which do you think would be easier to LEARN on...as i have zero rotary experience...closest i've got to it is the flex 3401
