Foam guns or foam cannons?

What are the differences and what are the advantages of using them? I only used 2 buckets methods. Are there any ways to make your own? Cause they are bit pricey?

I have this one on my radar for spring (Detroit, if it ever gets here). It's pretty cheap and I can use a hose. I'm sure it's not as good as the one you use with a pressure washer but it will be more convenient for me

I've only used a foam gun, but I love it! Works great and loads of fun

foam cannon/lance (pressure washer) = thicker/heavier clinging shaving cream like foam with longer dwell time.

foam gun (garden hose) = pre-soak and use while washing to help reduce marring.

i have both and like the foam gun because you can spray the panel down as you wipe it
which helps to lubricate when touching the paint and flush away dirt as you go.
if i had a dark colored vehicle i wouldn't be without one.

The way that I look at it, is like this:
I don't need a foam gun/cannon when I use
a PW first; then, do the "2-Bucket System".

The Gilmour gun I have is more like sudsy water. More for show. It's just another toy, really.
Used it a few times and just find it faster and easier to use the 2BM.

Turns out without thinking I always default to the 2bm. Dragging out the power washer just seems a hassle, a noisy hassle at that, and smelly. At most I may foam gun but will also 2bm at the same time.

Just something simple about washing a section then having a rinse hose readily available without having to detach the foam gun barrel.

Pure preference. The foam from the cannon sure is impressive though.

Cannon works best as a sales generator for detailing when people are around to see it in action.

In My Opinion none are superior to the other for actual lubrication.

I think a pressure washer and a foam cannon are worth the money but as like most things, we all have our opinions, needs and wants... so this is just make take on it.:dblthumb2:

I use an electric Karcher K7 and a MTM foam cannon FWIW

I had purposefully allowed my daily driver to get dirty so I could do some product testing whilst on leave recently - at the point I snapped the below set of pics, I'd done about 3000km in the 5 weeks since it's last wash (wheels and paint hit with Gyeon Wetcoat).

Here is what it looked like before :bolt:

I then pressure rinsed the front fender and wheel and dried it with a blower afterward

I then applied some Valet Pro Advanced Neutral Snowfoam via the cannon

Allowed it to dwell for 4 mins

Then blow dried it again

This 'pre-washing' definitely removed a lot of dirt that would otherwise potentially contribute to swirls....so for me, it's definitely worth doing.... I know there are guys like 'Accumulator' on Autopia that make use of the cannon differently (with a boars hair brush) and also guys who are able to effectively wash their car WITHOUT a pressure washer and cannon.... so while it works for me, there may be other methods out there that work for YOU (and others).

My Gilmour gun sits on the shelf. I can stick my sponge in soapy water, wring it out on the car, and get the same effect for less effort.

I have both and they both have their place in my washing routine(s). If my truck or my wife's car are really dirty (most of the time lol) I use the pressure washer and foam cannon. If they aren't that dirty I use the foam gun (or if I just don't feel like pulling the pressure washer out lol). I also lean more towards the pressure washer/foam cannon to conserve water. My well can produce water at 5gpm on average where my pressure washer will only use 1.2gpm. That's a huge difference in water used during any given weekend of washing.

S P O N G E ! ! ! Noooo....... never...... particulates get caught in the sponge and can scratch the crap outta' your ride...... wash mitt only.
