Foaming doesn't make sense

Hi all

My observation ...

One of the 1st times I used the High Pressures washer and Foam Gun my process was:

1st
High Pressure rinse with water

2nd
Foam Car (Meguiar's Hyperwash)
- let it dwell a few minutes to loosen dirt

3rd
High Pressure rinse off excess soap with water

4th
Two bucket wash - grit guards in both wash and rinse buckets
(Meguiars #62 Professional Carwash Shampoo & Conditioner)

5th
Rinse with a normal hose - sheet off excess soap.

6th
Dry with waffle weave microfiber
(or other air compressor,etc)

What I noticed was that both my Wash and Rinse buckets were still clean.
The soapy and clean water buckets, which were usually dirty after a two-bucket wash, was actually still clean.

We all know by now that there is no protection against swirls, unless it's a garage queen :)

The less contact You physically have with the paint, wash/dry stage, the less likely you may cause imperfections (swirls, RIDS, etc)

Also, the less dirt particles you have floating around in your wash and/or rinse buckets or even stuck to your wash mitt, the better.

I'll still be using the foam gun ... Cos it's sooo much fun (and yes ... I'm still a newbie ) :)

Just my 2 cents (with is even less than a US$ 0.02 since I'm from Cape Town, South Africa :) ... Haha!!! )

Njoy it guys ... Laterz

What did you see that changed your mind?

Less agitation needed with a moderately dirty car (with a boars hair brush). Noticed less dirt in the rinse bucket after wash and for me less area that I had to go back over that I sometimes miss. When the car was foamed and working on the dirt I could start on the wheels making it a smoother operation for me. This was with a foam lance not a foam gun and using CG Citrus Wash and Gloss

I heard that the reason for foaming is to lift up dirt without touching the car.

However if foam is that STRONG, wouldn't that also lift up your sealant and wax??

I learned a lesson on this after using a foam gun 4 or 5 times. I noticed that the sealant on my car (only a month old) was pretty much stripped, and in a much shorter period of time than I'd ever seen before. After doing some reading I chalked that more up to the dilution ratio of soap I was using (too strong), as well as the fact that I was letting the foam sit on the car far longer than necessary.

My new process is to foam the car, starting with the top surfaces, and let it soak for about a minute, then blast it all off in the same order. Since figuring that out I've put two coats of Fuzion on the car and have given it four foam baths. It's been a month and the Fuzion is still beading and sheeting great, and this is on a daily driver.

Well I guess Im a rookie, because I just ordered the auto geek foam Gun. I can tell you this its going to attract allot of bizzness when people see there neighbor car all foamed up like that. as far as striping sealeat or wax Ill have to get back to you on that.

I think ( like previously stated) you can have a much safer wash. With the original question being wouldn't it lift your sealant or wax that depends on the soap added to it. In the pic above I used chemical guys wash and gloss which in my experience, with one foam cannon wash it does not strip wax. However it does soften everything up and even start breaking down dirt a you can see in the first pic. And by the time you rinse it off with you have a much cleaner surface for the standard wash.

You rinse it off before you do a 2 bucket method ?

The foam gun is by far my favorite detailing tool, I haven't fine tuned it yet or tried it with maxi suds or honeydew but besides the clean factor it's just fun and better than the old two bucket wash ( Which I obviously still do )

I use a two bucket + foam cannon method. Foam on and then wash off with wool mitt. Easy and fast.

That's what I thought, foam cannon let it sit for 5 minutes or so,them wash the car as if wasn't pre soaked, then rinse it off.

SO why you guys rinse off the the pre soak ?

As for foam lances, anyone have an opinion on the MTM Hydro vrs the AG Foam Lance? Are they the same? Is one better?

I've often thought it would attract the Environmental Protection Agency. I'm one of the few that still hasn't tried one but it makes perfect sense to me.

Being the proud owner of a foam cannon (thanks to A-Train) an using it for a week on clients cars i would have to :iagree:all depends on the soap your using. I used CGW&G to strip before a correcting an it worked perfect. but also use megs hyper wash on maintenance washes an dosent seem to affect LSP (so far). So as i see it as long as you dont use a high dilution the soap shouldnt strip LSP

If the pre soak loosens any grit, a rinse will get rid of it before you grind it into your paint with your wash mitt.

Sealant...I meant to post yesterday on this topic. IMO and IME foaming adds to the prevention of inducing swirls in your paint. Take a look at the below thread and check for my post. Foaming a car prior to a traditional 2 bucket wash method makes sense to me in that the less dirt thats on the car prior to a two bucket method, the less chance for swirls.

LSUFAN....Man you need to post in my Foam Party thread!!! Thats some serious foam action right there!!!
