So as the title states this 30k mile impulse blue GTO came to me all the way from Pennsylvania to Rochester Ma to have me put my touch on it. The couple that owns this car are very passionate about there GTO and have traveled all over to big shows with it. Along with traveling to show it they have also traveled to have certain people work on it that they see fit. Including traveling to Virginia to have the car repainted.

When I was originally contacted I asked how they had heard about me and they have been following me on Facebook and along with being a fellow GTO owner they knew they needed to have me work on it to address some issues. So this job was a big honor for me needless to say.

When the owners arrived we talked for quite awhile to put a game plan together that would address there concerns while staying in a comfortable price range. Even though they were willing to spend some money they still have budgets like most of us.

The first concern was heavy orange peel on the drivers door and fender. The passenger side had some as well. Not as bad but they decided to have me address that later to stay within a budget.

Next was a small ding on the driver side rear quarter panel which needed my PDR techs touch. No problems there except I needed to remove the back seat and inner interior panel to give him access. We didn't want a hole drilled in the wheel well or anywhere for that matter and glue pulling was out of the picture due to the risk involved with a non factory paint job. This was the best solution and really didn't take much time to do.

Onto the car.

First thing on the list was leveling the orange peel via damp sanding with machine and Mirka disks.

After a quick rinseless wash on that side I carefully masked off trim, edges etc as I didn't want to get there those areas. Especially the painted on pinstripe.

The first stage of sanding was completed with 2000 grit Mirka disks on a PC7424 and 3in disks on a swirl killer mini. 2nd stage was with 3000 grit and the same machines. I sanded the drivers door, fender and rear quarter. The rear quarter only got 3000 grit as it wasn't too bad.

This left the following results.

To remove the sanding marks I used my Rupes 21 Mark 2, Megs microfiber cutting pad and M100. My swirl killer mini was also used with Megs microfiber cutting pads. This combo worked quick and left a great finish that didn't need much finishing polishing.

After the initial sanding and compounding was done on that side I rewashed the vehicle, decond it and got it ready for the rest of the correction.

Mckees FC717, Megs microfiber cutting pads and Rupes 21 Mark 2 was used along with the swirl killer mini. Rupes yellow pads, Hyper polish, Porter cable 7424 was used for finish polishing. Along with the swirl killer mini and rupes 4in yellow pads.

LSP- IGL Poly 1 year coating

A wheels off service was also completed. Wheels were cleaned with Mckees foaming wheel cleaner gel, polished with Mckees fast metal polish and coated with IGL wheel coating. Inner wheel housings were cleaned with LATA and dressed with hyper dressing. Tires were dressed with Mckees gloss tire gel.

Amazing work!

Always flattering when someone goes out of their way to have you work on their car. And seeing the results, I'm sure they're glad they did!

You weren't kidding about the heavy orange peel! Great job knocking that down. Looks great!!

That last picture tells the story. Beautiful car, incredible work.

Why did they drive to VA for that paint job? Seems like they were careful with who does work on their GTO. We have quite a few very very good painters up here in Michigan.

Thanks buddy. They will be arriving tomorrow most likely to come pick it up. They have been following along on my page throughout the process.

The gentleman who did the work is very very familiar with GTOs and is very active on the pages and forums. They like people who not only know what they are doing but are familiar with the car. Can't blame them.

Nice work Justin. Did you use the abralon discs?

Sure did!

I seen a lot of those when they were new,,none of them ever looked that good,,awesome job!!

I love that color!!!

Thanks Scott. Clients picked up Saturday evening and headed back to Philadelphia. They were very happy and are already talking about when to bring it back!

I just meant if they're careful with who touches the car, why have someone paint it that leaves horrible orange peel? I understand supporting fellow enthusiasts, but that orange peel look pretty bad. Regardless, it looks proper now.
