From "stay tuned" to T U N E D !!

Hell yeah brother!

My lid/catback/2.73 car is even fun. I know they start to party with a converter and tires though.

I have to assume those 4L80E's have a lower first gear to compensate for such a high geared rearend

4l60e - 3.06

4l80e - 2.48
Guess the days of 3.73/4.10's are loooong gone, huh

I had a 4.88 geared 10 bolt in my 78' Caprice 2 Dr and 4000 stall, car left HARD!

Way more bang for the buck with a converter than with gears in these. But in all reality I don’t race it like I thought I would. I’m less than a half hour away from a track even.

Saw a black 6 speed Elantra N today. Cool cars.

6 speed is way better than a 4LshittyE

E85 makes good power. It loses mpg. It also has a more limited shelf life than non ethanol gas.

E85 is also cheaper

A auto wins races and a 4l60e can be built to handle some power and take some abuse

Yeah those cars are certainly better with a stick, reverse compared to today's cars, funny how that worked out

Yeah I'm sure there's builders out there that can work wonders with the 4L's but it's kinda funny what the designated, hard-core guys use...TH400 w/TH350 first gears

Ya a th 400 (same as a 4l80e) is stronger than a 4l60e. Nobody would argue that, it's a physically bigger, beafer transmission. But there are some vehicles.... like a c5 vette, where a 4l80e or th 400 will not fit.

Weight is the big killer for a 4l60e but in something lighter like a c5 vette you can build them to hold 700+ hp.

Also as far as a th 400 goes, not everyone wants to drive down the highway without over drive and a non lockup converter.

And none of the transmission have anything to do with first gear. None of the mentioned transmissions have first gear issues.

I'm just saying people used to swap TH350 1st gears intl their TH400 for a better launch

How easily can you get E85? Around here it was really popular years ago when GM was selling "Flex Fuel" vehicles and you could find it at several gas stations. Now, I can't remember the last time I saw a pump offering it.

It is very common here. I'm about 10 miles west of the Wisconsin border and about 20 miles east of St. Paul and it plentiful here which is good for the high boost guys. Pretty much every one boosted around here runs E.

It's usually pretty good quality E also

Ahhh, gotcha.

Back to the 4000 stall and 4.88 gears.... that thing had to of yanked hard.

I run 3.73's with a 4400 and have also wanted to go to a 4.56

I street raced it for 3 yrs and sold it my boss at the time and he took it to the drag strip and let me make a pass. I ran a 12.3@107 mph

Don't suppose you remember the 60' time do ya?

You're right. If you want to drag race, the auto is the way to go unless you're Grubworm. That car is mind blowing.

I spoke about a "budget" build for the exhaust, well, here's the tips that are SOLD OUT, hmmmm, wonder why These aren't cheap, about $400 IIRC and SXTH Element has pre-order for a titanium mid-pipe (3") $600, so $1000 to improve the sound basically.

On the other end, Stillen has an entire cat-back (3" mid-pipe/2.5" axle-back and perf muffler) AND their CF tips...about$1800 but a dyno proven hp/tq gain.

This is quite some time away for me though but I've gotta have those tips, my God are they STUNNING

I vote do the entire car back
Well there are catted and non-catted DP's, I'd NEVER EVER do the latter, it's sooooo loud🫣

My tune tunes out a CEL from either cat but I'll cross that bridge IF I have to. A cat-back that makes power/tq is the way to go but you don't get as much gain on a tuned car though, weird, huh

I've got time to sort it out but those N Performance CF tips WILL make it onto my EN

That’s fine, I still like my shitty trans car. When I could finally buy one of these, I decided on lower mileage cars with an auto vs extremely clapped out t56 cars that were in my budget.

If budget weren’t a concern I’d have looked at low mileage 6 speed ws6 cars, firehawks, or a SOM SS.
