Gas prices are climbing

We are hampered by the regulations imposed on us. I do not agree on allowing any industry to run wild unchecked, but the US has hampered the refinery/exploration process to the point the importing has been the easier solution. Another poster stated that the price increases are directly related to the "fear factor" of most commodity brokers. That posted is entirely correct and highlights just how fragile gas prices are to this fluctuation.

There are currently over 3000 off shore wells in the Gulf of Mexico. What many companies do when they discover a new source is to drill, then cap the well. Oil companies do this for many reasons. Mainly to keep production levels in check and also to guarantee that there is a future source. Essentially, so they do not dump too much oil into the marketplace at one time.

South Africa has been using.manufacturing synthetic oil/gas for many years. Brazil is completely self sufficient using their own ethanol based oil. Our problem has been our inability to become more self sufficient.

Yup. But the thing that upsets me the most about regulations is that we buy oil from fairly unregulated sources; they do not have to report/answer to any of our gov. agencies, but we buy the oil without asking questions. I'm not suggesting that we go hog wild with oil production, but I think our gov. puts us in a funny position about importing oil. They destroy the earth to meet our needs, but it's hard for us to tap into our many reserves, even responsibly, because the gov. doesn't want to offend a bunch of tree hugging Al Gore worshippers.

I think electric cars would have had a better chance catching on over the last twenty years if they hadn't all been so ugly. That Saturn EV-1 thing was just as ugly as a Pontiac Aztec. What was with the back wheels being covered by a body panel? I don't like the Toyota Prius because it is kind of an ugly car too. I've always thought mfg's have sabotaged the hybrid/electric vehicle programs by making the cars so ugly. I'm not trying to get too far off topic. Just wanted to add my $.02

the electrics cars never caught on for a multitude of reasons...

cheap gas
ugly
impractical
slow
total cost of ownership

they are temperamental and cars like the honda insight were two seaters and tiny.

they are now being made to "make a statement'. You drive one and the look of the car makes it known you "care about the environment" whether that is true or not is irrelevant.... it's the statement the car makes for you.

Not everyone wants to make that statement. I am not against the electric car, but doubt I would ever own one in the next 10 yrs

Here in Montreal, Canada it's 1.31$CAD/liter so around 5$ US for a gallon.

What sucks, the CEO of the oil company are screwing themselves in the long run. All our goods to live every day life starts with something to do with fuel. Product has to get shipped, trucked, flown from somewhere, which uses fuel. So in the end they to are paying for higher cost to survive. Side note they can give two shits, cause they're wealthy...

So American people , just get a smaller cheaper european/asian car .:dblthumb2::laughing:
rolls royce, ferrari, lamborghini, mercedes , bmw , koenigsegg, spyker, zonda, bugatti

The majority of the world outside of the US uses Diesel fuel for their vehicles... Diesel provides a better MPG rating than petrol as well as less "smog" (although people see the big plumes of black smoke that comes out honestly that is better than the invisible co2 that comes from our petrol vehicles)

Diesel can also be converted from waste bi-products like fry oil (something that we here in the US seem to love) creating bio-diesel, thus creating a self sufficiency of our own... Why do we all sit here and complain (no one in particular) about the same thing basically; THE GOVERNMENT? and how they aren't doing things right to make us have an easier life? "Why aren't they allowing us to tap into our resources?" "Why do we have so many regulations?" ETC...

Why don't we as American Citizens (by no means any offense to the non American friends that are members) stop complaining and whining, and start to become self sufficient without the crappy government that we have chosen through election?

Because WE are all to used to being lazy and allowing the government to do what THEY want and not listen to US as their BOSSES! Because WE refuse to stand up to THEM even after WE have appointed THEM as OUR voice! Because WE have forgotten that THEY according to OUR constitution are a GOVERNMENT FOR THE PEOPLE BY THE PEOPLE! And WE won't remind THEM because THEY hold too much power because WE have given it to THEM and WE are now affraid of THEM!

Wow no one has posted after me... Just to let everyone know I apologize if anything I sad was offensive or harsh. Please don't take it as that, I was on a tangent. I do mean what I said I just did not mean to offend anyone.

The problem is the oil is in Texas, Alaska, Oklahoma, etc., and the dipsticks are in Washington DC.

The real culprits here are not the politicians or even the car and oil execs. The people to blame here are the "soccer moms!" It was their need to show their peers (i.e. other neighborhood soccer moms) that they were much cooler if they drove an inefficient gas guzzling canopied truck with extra seats instead of a minivan that has pushed America towards the road to oil dependency!

The goobermant has a ton of control over oil prices. This is their way of starting to drive us to using alternative fuels, sources. There is enough oil in the gulf alone to last this country 100 years at the rate we are going now. Let alone texas, and alaska....First job would be to give the whole office a "clean sweep".

I have no interest in discrediting you, but I am very curious as to the sources of your information.

The way I see it is since the USA is basically operating everything from others help. You go to Walmart and about 75% of the things in there are made in other countries. Providing others more jobs and more money. The oil is drill somewhere else providing them business and they control the prices. USA has no power over everything they buy somewhere else. It may seem like the government here does has a lot of power when they really show the only power they have is being able to start a war and go to war. That's why our debt continue to increase. Let's not forget whenever the war in Iraq end and in Afghanistan and other areas we have to rebuild the places where we fought a war. Kinda funny and dumb and yet is another tab to our debt. I personally don't trust the government AT ALL. There are many things they know and we have no clue about it.

I agree with a lot of what you said politically but really I just came hear to to tell everybody to relax when it comes to fear of crazy gas prices.

Why? The price of gasoline will start going back down and average near 3$ a gallon for the year... unless some very specific things occur that are quite unlikely.
