Hi,

My name is Matt & I will be buffing this boat and need some advice on which product & pad to use.

I will be using a PC 7424xp and it would be great if I can only make 1-2 passes.

I saw a video where they used Pinnacle XMT 360 and it did it all in one shot. I'm wondering if this product will have enough cut. I like the fact that is cuts, polishes, and protects all in one.

Some questions;

1. Is XMT 360 the right product?
2. Green or orange pad? How many should I buy?
3. How much product should I buy? 16oz?

Here are some pics of gelcoat:

Thanks.

Meg's 100 and CCS 6.5 Inch yellow Smart Pads. Works great.

I don't think XMT 360 will have enough cut for that, but if you have some kicking around give it a shot.

Thanks. Do you think it would be a good product to use after a heavy cut compound? Seems like it is a fine cut with added protection?

you will need either a rotary or at the very least a heavy cutting pad for your da, i would reccomend going to a napa with a body shop center and picking up fareclas gelcoat restorer/conditioner...its like$13.50 for a bottle.

rotary with a wool pad.or for a area that small you can do it by hand.800 to 1000 grit comp.

I buffed a few test areas. This is my first time using a circular polisher so I need to practice a little more. I only spent about 4min on what you see in the pics.

Step 1: 3M 05954 super duty compound with wool pad, circular/rotary from HF.
Spet 2: 3M 06064 Perfect-It machine polish on 5725 black foam pad.

Now, I believe the finesse it compound falls right in between the 2, but I wanted to try this first. I also have to hit some scratches with 1500 grit.

I have 2 3M stripe off wheels and will see how quickly the decals can be removed.

All the above was borrowed/purchased locally so I can get a jump on this. I didn't want to wait a week for an online purchase.

Looking good. Are you replacing the decals after you've cleaned it up?

Yes, actually going to start removing them today. I have a heat gun and 3M stripe off wheel. We'll see which is more effective.

I've contact a MC forum member who does decals. I will be getting full set and installing this winter.

Can anyone recommend a good paint/gelcoat sealant?

Came out good! Good job.

The picture of the boat on the water is a STUNNING shot!

Thanks! My wife took the stunning shot in the morning. The view was great that morning.
