Last week i started trying to loose weight by running. I did every other day last week this week will be every day.

Its cold windy and misty....this afternoons run will stink lol

Just remember to eat clean as well. About 80% is diet and 20% is workout.

I would get to the gym or do some at home bodyweight exercises. It has helped me with detailing. I used to race bicycles and that is all I trained for so my upper body suffered. Now I am trying to balance it out.

HUMP

Lay off the bread, sweets of all kinds and pop/sports drinks...that's a good start....good luck!

I dont mind eating right the hard part is healthy food costs more then other food.

In some cases, yes however it comes down to how important is it to you?

Isn't it worth living a healthier lifestyle and feeling better?

Sometimes yes, but if you're making your own food, it can offset a lot of that.

And in the long run, eating healthier can be WAY cheaper if you include medical costs down the road.

I eat more healthy than I have ever done before and try and walk more than 10 minutes everyday, I try and cut down on snacks too and only eat breakfast, lunch and dinner. It's hard but it's worth it.

Good luck dude, hope you loose as much wight as you want to do!

Coming from someone who lost 50lbs in a year (189 to 139) and now weighs 145 (with even less body fat) the key for me was to eat right (not go on an organic frenzy, but get the proper nutrients and skip a few burgers a week) and eating enough was the key. Then focus on running AND building muscle because having more muscle means you burn more calories doing nothing.

I live on a college budget and love complex carbs like brown rice, steel cut oatmeal, and shredded weat. All pretty cheap, and then microwave steamable vegetables too. For meat though, I prefer to allow a little slack in the budget to get better tasting stuff.

For meat ive been doing more fish and chicken and less red meat

When you're running just make sure your shoe laces are not loose. Losing weight won't be hard as long as you're determined and committed to it.

Its good for your metabolism and you'll feel even better if you eat smaller, multiple meals throughout the day then just 3 bigger meals a day. Healthy food of course.

Ive noticed since ive been running the last two weeks me knee has been bugging me. Maybe i should switch to a bike

That, or just switch it up some. Don't only run. Also look up some videos online about proper running form. People seem to think that running is easy, but running with proper form takes practice and isn't necessarily 'natural'.

For a great full body workout that is easier on your knees I'd recommend a rower. Concept2 makes the gold standard of rowers and it can be disassembled in seconds to make for compact storage.

Not really, if you shop properly. Like sweet potatoes, one of the best complex carbs available, they aren't expensive. Bake em in the oven, no additives, I cubem out and put them in the fridge for snacking on. Chicken breasts, baked, cod, etc. Broccoli, cauliflower, per serving no more expensive than junk food. Good luck, stay motivated! Oh yeah, drink lots of water, no sodas etc.

Then color me DEAD!

Although I don't eat bread as just for eating it. Really don't even eat toast unless it's a weekend breakfast or something. Stopped drinking soda pretty much completely almost 2 years ago though, but do drink iced tea all day, every day. (Not much sugar in it though, lots of ice, lots of "melted tea" then re-icing it.)

Do love me some home made oatmeal n butterscotch cookies though! :D

If chicken ever goes into shortage we'll starve to death around here! Might get red meat once a week tops.

OTOH, started physical therapy 3 weeks ago now, working on 'core strength', lots and I mean LOTS of pulling in the tummy and doing various leg lifting techniques. Ups and downs with the back are the norm for me, (more down than up this year) which have put a good 12~14 Lbs that I really don't want (up towards 190~192). Just trying to get to some sort of 'normal' (if that's possible). :dunno: Did get a 3 mile walk with my favorite Doberman in over the weekend (in under 55 minutes) and a good workout in today. :xyxthumbs:

Conner, how in the world you're 5'9" @ 145 is beyond me. I'm just over 5'10" and weighed more than that at your age and I was skinny. :D

Well I was 189. Now I'm 145 at 10% body fat. My goal my March (College spring break time ) is to be at 153 and still 10% BF. I've been slow the past 4 weeks because of physical therapy for my back, shoulders, and neck.
