gg6 shutting off

So my gg6 2nd generation is shutting off automatically sometimes, is it a warning feature or preventative thing?
 
Nearly all electric motors have something called a "motor protector" to well, protect it from heat and thermal overload. It's possible that this could be the cause working correctly and something's wrong or the device itself is defective....or another defect is present causing the issue...

They have a lifetime guarantee so send it back for a replacement...
 
It shouldnt ever shut off by its self. How does it start working again?

Yeah, I'm thinking that's what I'm going to have to do. I have a brand new spare now so guess its time to break it out!

My Griots 6" which is just 2 months old,,suddenly shut off during a detail last week. I let it cool down, tried again, changed outlets ect Never came back on again. I just sent it back to griots. If it fails within 30 days AG will take it back but mine was over that period. I actually got an english speaking very friendly person at griots who was more than helpful in the return process..
 
Mine did that right out of the box. Sent it back on their dime and they sent me another one. Easy.
 
If the extension cord you're using is too long you'll have too much voltage drop across the wire. When dealing with motors, as voltage drops, current rises, which can overheat the motor.

Could that be a cause? Maybe you recently started using a different cord?

No, been using the same cords for about a year now , no problems till just recently
 
Im on my 2nd GG6, 1st one shut off a few times, then never came back on. They replaced it and paid shipping all directions. #2 has started doing it as well, getting aggrivated!
 
As others have mentioned, you're covered by a lifetime warrantee.

But not sure now what Griots Garage does, since their newest Gen. 3 machine is now on the shelves? Do they simply give you a Gen 3, even though the machine that failed under warrantee is an older model? Just curious about this one?

Some good reasons have been given as to why such is happening.
Another thought, is the machine now running hotter than it was before, that it is going into a thermal shutdown? Any possibility of the machine being loaded with dusts-debris from pads, or such?
 
I would make sure the extension cord is 12 gauge if it is 100' or 14 gauge if it is 50 ft. To large of a voltage drop across an extension cord can harm the motor.
 
This happened to me as well. I thought maybe I needed to replace the brushes so I did using the set provided in the box. While I was doing so I noticed an insulated wire connector running over a bare copper piece of frame. It had worn through the insulation causing a short. I simple wrapped it in electrical tape and bent the connector up a little for clearance and it’s been fine ever since. You will need to remove the handle as if to replace the brushes. When you do this you will see exactly what I’m talking about.

After I got my GG6 I was talking to customer service about another issue and asked about the spare brushes as there where no instructions about how to replace them. I was told they were included by accident and to throw them out as replacing them would void the warranty.

I hope you didn’t through them out. They will last only 20 to 30 full corrections and your warranty will surely be up by then. Replacing brushes in an electric motor is very common (unless it’s brushless) and easy to do. When I ran into trouble with my machine, I was in the middle of a correction and didn’t have time to mess with customer services and warranties. If you need help with changing the brushes or checking for an electrical short just let me know.

The warranty on the GG6 is a lifetime warranty.

Thanks for the offer, but I did throw them out. I'm just a weekend warrior so if my GG6 develops any problems I don't mind losing it for a couple of weeks while I send it in for repair or replacement. I can understand how this would be a problem for those of you who do this for a living.
