I've been doing this for about 5 years now, Todd. There's a story behind why I started doing this and it would require it's own thread.

Much like Mark's efforts, going out of my way at times took a lot of 'trying' at first, but now it's second nature, and I don't mind it at all. I do it without thinking and without fail when I see one of those veteran hats, or somehow find out a person is a veteran.

For a lot of years I've had regrets about not serving my country the way others have done and are doing. However, I've since chalked it up to God having a different path for me. I don't know why, and I don't ask him why. I figure he'll tell me why someday. For now, I just keep doing what I do.

I don't write about what I do for my heroes for fame or glory...simply in hopes that I can inspire others to try it...try reaching out to someone with words of kindness, much like Mark did at McDonalds today. It doesn't have to be a veteran, but I mentioned them because I feel it's important to honor them for their sacrifices.

I appreciate what you do for these veterans you meet, Todd.:props:

Since you're involved in this thread now, how about contributing a little bit on the positive side. How long has it been since you done something like Mark did today? Surely you have a story or two.
 
Thats great Mark!!

A few years ago I went to Leesburg,Florida to help my uncle open a mexican restaurant. I was a waiter for 6 months. Let me tell you its a very tough job. Even if you provide the best customer service,their is those people who just want to make your job misarable and dont tip well or at all.

Ever since that experience I have a new respect for people in the food industry. If my waiter great, I make sure to give them a good tip. This makes them know you appreciate the good service

with my father being a veteran, I made several trips with him to the veterans hospital in LITTLE ROCK AR., as I would push him thru the hospital, there wasn't one person we would pass and he would tell me to stop and he would shake hands with fellow vets and tell them THANK YOU for your service, and they would smile and say NO! Thank you for your service:), then while we would be waiting for his appointments, me and my dad would shake hands and tell everyone in there thank you! The looks on their faces are priceless, my dad was a big talker, he would talk for hours to fellow vets that he just met, I always make a point to thank our vets, because when someone would tell my dad thank you for your service, it meant more to him than you could ever imagine. When my dad passed away last year, I couldn't believe some of the vets he met at the vet hospital in little rock came to pay their respects. They are special people in my heart for sure:)
