Going Home Tomorrow

Thanks honey. Welcome to you too! If you're not already you will be addicted very soon. ;) But no worries you are in good company. :D

look who's back, sexy Jen !! (actually I saw your PM first)

I think the item that people do not realize about Florida is there are alot of medium income jobs but yet property values, and taxes, as well as insurance have outpaced the area. So Floridians are packing up , selling for high dollars, and moving north. Meanwhile the people moving into Fl for retirement have to be wealthier now. As such the areas are changing quickly as are the individuals. There are however benefits to Fl like weather and no state tax. But as with anywhere there are good and bad ...

lol. I know what you mean. I live on the Dade/Broward line and my whole life I've had a complex about my state. All you ever hear is how much it sucks down here. It's sad. I always say Florida is the place people love to hate, because for such a crummy state, they can't seem to move down here fast enough it seems. ;) Yeah, it's bad. I think I'm one of the few natives in South Florida. None of my neighbors are from here and I've never met anyone in Miami from here. But central Florida and the west coast seem to still have alot and that's good. I always thought Ocala would be a nice place to live or Port St. Lucie maybe. For me, I just have to be not too far from the beach. I don't think I could ever go away from the water.

I live 25 miles south of Ocala in the little city of Inverness(Citrus County). A small, quaint, hometown area that's growing steadily. Ocala is booming as well.....very nice area though. I work in Crystal River, which is on the water on the west coast, 25 miles west of me. Nice area too:)

Killr, just wait until we get hit with another big Hurricane(I suspect it will be soon, god forbid)......it might be hard to afford insurance!! I saw today where they approved another 2% increase:mad: Man I hate insurance biz!

Yeah I know Inverness. Ocala is beautiful! I've always liked it there. And silver springs is so close! I love the springs. I dove Blue Spring once. My brother and step dad dove the caves under those two big logs, but I was too chicken. I don't do caves. I've had every emergency that can happen to you when you're diving and with my kind of luck, I don't want to take chances on caves. ;)

Do you know what a single family home is going for in Ocala now? Or what the price per acre is? I would actually like to build a house rather than buy one so that I could make it concrete.

I'm not sure what the price of an acre in Ocala is, but in my area I've seen them from 40k-100k+, depending on location. I haven't been looking(gee, I wonder why), so I can't give you good quotes. Single family homes range from $100k-$250K+ depending on size and what you want. Mine 2000 sqare feet, nothing special, on a standard 80X120 lot and it was appraised at $150k-$175K! My sister is building one right now that's 3600 sf on 1/2 acre(which she already owned) and her house is going to be $200K+, and she is very good friends with the builder! Depends on what you want and location, location, location. BTW-----how do you know Inverness?? Just curious.

Ding Ding Ding Ding we have a winner :applause: the pay is garbage and living expenses are going up. My parents house insurance has gone up to were they are paying an extra $300 more then last year it crazy. And more and more insurance companys are dropping hurrican insurance cause it's costing them too much. Right now we pay $699 for a 2 bed 2 bath (carpet floors), swimming pool, gated community, a mini gym (more like a small room with a treadmill and 2 exercise machines). A place like this in SoFlo would bring in an easy $900-$1000 in a good neighbor hood (with low wages). The house my parents are looking to buy sits on 11 acres and will be sold to them for just under 200g's.

my insurance company dropped me in Aug. last year.....that' s 1/2 way through hurricane season! Almost left us without insurance because no one would write a policy for us as long as there was a storm out there somewhere-----which was June-Nov.! Almost had to go with state funded insurance, which is 1/2 the coverage at twice the cost! Did I mention I hate insurance companys? Grrrrrrrr..........

Yeah I hate the insurance co's too! I remember after Andrew how many insurance companies went belly up and we had to go into the state pool. I thought to myself, "what did they do with all of that money that they were collecting before Andrew hit??" I mean we probably hadn't had any "major" hurricane damage to the state since David when we had all that flooding. They're a bunch of crooks! I know Inverness because I have been there before. When I was a kid we would go camping, fishing and diving alot and so I've been to alot of places all over the state. Inverness is very pretty.

Wystang, where in the world are your parents getting a house plus 11 acres for under 200k?? Are they up there in the Carolinas with you too? I forgot now if you are in South or North Carolina. I want to say South but I'm not sure.

The house they are trying to buy is in Georgia (near Fl border) I'm in SC so I'll only be 4 hours from a family (they are curently in south FL).
