Going to detail a Black 2008 BMW 528i next weekend...need advice...

I'm going this for a friend for very little money. I wasn't planning on polishing the car but after seeing it briefly last night it DEFINITELY needs it.

I want to do a one step polish on the car (because i'm not going to kill myself over a detail i'm basically doing as a favor) and i'm looking for some recommendations from people who have worked with BMW paint.

The car has basic car wash swirls on it as well as a few areas i'll hit with 105. But overall i want to keep it simple with one step.

I was thinking D151 would be my best bet but there's one downside. I wanted to put a sealant on the car as we're approaching winter. 151 would not allow me to do this....correct?

The other options i have are Menz 203, SIP, Nano. Megs 105/205, UC. HD UNO.

Pads are your basic orange, white, black CCS pads and Cyan, Tangerine, and Crimson HT pads. I want to work on this with my Flex as i feel it'll minimize my time w a 6.5 inch pad.

I was thinking a Tangerine HT pad with either 203, M205 UC, or UNO.

Can anyone familiar with BMW black chime in and provide some advice?

I did a dark blue bmw recently and use tangerine and p106. Some spots need power finish but over all paint was easy to correct. I guess you could use d151 then write down with a paint prep and then apply sealant but I dont really think that is worth it. Are you using flex 3401 or rotory?

Good info maybe i'll try 106 to start with. I am using a 3401.

I use 12oz squirt bottles and as I buy by the gallon I mix 9oz 151 and 3oz 105 and get some good correction with my Flex3401 and SurBufs in one step

I think D151 is worthless, unless you have very minimal swirls. I used it on a black CTS that wasn't in horrible condition, but the swirls were definitely there!! I used it with an LC orange pad with very little improvement. I then tried D151 with a Meg's MF cutting pad. It cut a lot more, but finished horrible!! I got much better results with a Meg's 5.5" cutting pad and the new version Optimum hyper polish(not released yet).

Doing a test spot is the only way you'll figure out what works.

Eaxactly. I own 2 BMW's currently a Jet Black(JB) one and a MonacoBlue(MB).
JB is soft I always do Mensz 203/85rd if a one step is called for, one the MB one the clear is a bit harder and I get decent results with Megs 205/85rd. You'll notice I said one step but list 2 polishes as I always finish it down with 85rd no matter what but they're my cars and as such I'll spend the extra hour. I use a 7424XP, with White and gray pads for the one steps. I seal using BFWD on a crimson pad and quuite often use CG Ez Creme using a blue pad to amp up even more.

Since you are doing this on the cheap I'd say 203 and when you get ready to seal it
the EX Creme and your sealant of choice. IMO.

You're not going to one step a JB BMW, and be happy with the results. What you could do is to use a glaze and then lsp it.

I forget which year they "fixed" Jet Black but I think it was 2009 or 2010. Pretty sure 2008 still had the really soft Jet Black. I've used Wolfgang Finishing Glaze with GREAT results as a one-step on the softer paint. If defects are bad enough, don't expect great results with a one-step. But for anything up to mild or moderate swirls, Wolfgang Finishing Glaze will definitely remove the defects and leave as good of a finish as you'll get.
