So this past fall I got married and we started our honeymoon in Nashville. We got down there around dinner time Sunday and I was hungry and only wanted one thing....BBQ! I googled local places and found Bailey and Cato, about 6 miles from our hotel. The reviews said stuff like "bad neighborhood" but good food and another one said old but clean place but went there for the food and weren't dissapointed....EITHER WAS I!

Check this place out:

I didn't wanna take a pic of the inside because I didn't wanna look "too much" like a tourist, even though my wife and I were the ones with the accent down there, LOL! I got catfish, mac-n-cheese, cornbread and pop out of the cooler. Having in seved on styrofoam completed the deal! I've been looking for a place like this forever and it was soooo worth it! The food was incredible and service with a smile, can't beat that and oh yeah, spent well under $25.00 too. Oh yeah the inside, old and clean and had 3 tables and a long counter, that's it!

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PLACE!

Very cool! Nothing can beat those kinds of places! (I was in Memphis and found a place almost like that.) Excellent food!

I'm hungry now!

Memphis is on my list for sure, Rendezous and Interstate BBQ, one is actually across the state line in Mississippi and my buddy down there said that's the one to go to. These places are "known" but that's ok, gotta check em' out!

I'll be sure and check it out next time I'm in the area.

Klasse you went to a barbeque place and got Catfish? That is like going to Red Lobster and ordering chicken. You should have got Ribs, Brisket, Chicken, Sausage. I can't recall seeing Catfish in a barbeque place in Texas.

I hear yah and I thought I'd be going back before we left but sorry to say I didn't. Keep in mind this is a soulfood AND BBQ place. You could taste the love in the food, nothing beats a homemade meal! I hope to get to Texas sometime and try some BBQ there for sure, brisket inparticular as its what they're famous for.

We've got AWESOME BBQ places here in Chicago too, Smoque BBQ is one (check out YouTube, Smoque was on season #1 of Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives) and I've been there 40x's since January of 2008 and another is Real Urban BBQ in Highland Park and Vernon Hills Illinois, simply the best, hands down! The owner of Smoque went around the country and brought the best to Chicago and I can only assume they did the same at Real Urban BBQ. So, if your in Chicago, I've given you a couple places to try as well.

You got "pop out of the cooler"? :wow:
You really aren't from around there!

That far south, its all coke. Regardless of the brand, it's coke.

The term "pop" is a Detroit/Chicago thing and yeah, Coke seems to be what cola is called, whether its Pepsi or RC even. Seems Pepsi isn't a sothern thing anyways, Coke rules down there and that's just fine with me!

I grew up in the D, south of 8 mile...barely!

Where's the BBQ pic?

The last pic is your classic Detroit Coney dogs, you guys might not know about that around the country! The other 2 pics are BBQ, burnt ends in there from Real Urban BBQ, best thing I've ever eaten in my life!

Thank you for saying that! I just started laughing when I read it.... still am!!!

POP? My old flat white arse off!

Walk into a southern BBQ joint and say "I'll have a pop please?" ROTFLMAO!

Suppose you drink un-sweetened tea as well?

Want some SERIOUS BBQ, go to Memphis! The worst BBQ you've ever had, EVER in and around Memphis will be better than the best you'll find most anywhere else. Breakfast, lunch and dinner you eat something from a smoker in Memphis. :dblthumb2:

When my daughter got married in July she gave me about 3 weeks notice and said, "Oh and Daddy, I want you to cook for everyone." I smoked 4 monster pork shoulders/(butts well call 'um) that weighed in at around 45 Lbs, and 6 big fat chickens. Made Brunswick stew, smoked mac-n-cheese, smoked baked beans, grilled corn, even a big artichoke and grilled veggie salad, you name it. We started prepping and cooking Wednesday morning and crashed about 4:45 Saturday morning for the wedding at 11:30.

We were hoping it'd be a long engagement, WRONG! At least it'll be a long while before any new rug rats come a crawling. :) Not mind you that I'm not willing to be a Granddaddy, just that she's not willing to be a Momma'.

Cardaddy, sounds like you need to open up a BBQ joint, how about "Cardaddy's BBQ and Detail". So you smoked some pork butt, nothing like a good butt! Where are you from?

As far as tea, well I usually drink unsweetened tea and add Sweet and Low (cut back where I can) but when I go down south and order tea I always say OFCOARSE SWEET TEA!

I wish I had tried the BBQ at that place but remember, soulfood and BBQ was what they served, I'll be back, sooner or later!

Did you use the Butts and chicken for the stew and did you stay true to the recipe and include squirrel? What cooker and wood did you use?

I'm game for all of them! Smoque here in Chicago was on "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives" but rest assured, once you walk into the 42 seat place at the corner of Pulaski and Grace in Chicago and smell the smoke in the air, its all ova! I know you guys from the south might not believe it but the 2 BBQ places I'm talking about here in Chicago are REALLY good, you'd love em'!

Just checked the Loveless Cafe'.....I'm ready to go....NOW! Hot biscuits and Fried Chicken, yes please! There's a place here in Chicago that's been around since the 40's called "The Chicken Basket" and it hasn't changed anything, even has the same neon sign out front too! Then there's the Fried Chicken....best I've ever had, its right on a part of old route 66 too and has a historical marker out front.

God I love food threads!

When the wife and I travel we always try to find the local places to go, might not look like much but they are usually fantastic.

The Fried chicken I love in Chicago is from Harolds, but some of the locations are much better than others. The one on Washington is ok but there is another that I think is on Western thats really good
