Good enough compressor (Need Recommendation)?

Compressors are rated in CFM.....Cubic Feet per Minute of air they can supply at a specific pressure. The compressor I have is rated for 11.5 CFM at 90psi. This will allow me to do just about anything I need except sandblast continuously.

All air tools have their CFM requirements listed and these must correlate with the compressor otherwise the tool won't operate as designed.

I highly doubt you will see 7.1 CFM @ 90 unless you wire that compressor to run on 240v.

For the OP, will you want this compressor to be mobile? If so, do you have a truck to stand it up in?

Oil-free compressors are good, but do not have near the duty cycle of oiled compressors. However, oiled compressors must be operated in their designed orientation (standing up, or laying down for a horizontal one). An oiled compressor will run all day continuously and not complain, and do so for years. An oil-less compressor will need its seal replaced in a couple of years if it sees that kind of use.

If it is to be stationary, consider a model that is 240v single-phase if your garage can be wired that way. Usually these models run a little bit more efficiently and quietly.

All that being said, if you wanted a compressor you could take with you anywhere and run almost anything (within reason, of course) you would use on the job, I would highly recommend this one. It is oil-less, but that way you can run it on its side if you have to.

The Tornador Cleaning Guns require 5cfm at 90psi. Portable compressers are notoriously overated. To run this tool effectively you should consider a compresser that puts out at least 7.5 cfm with a 30 gallon tank. This is about at the limit of 110 volt compressers. Anything smaller and you will not be able to run it continuously.

My compressor works for me. I have it on 110V. It does cycle on quite often.

Can I find an oil-less compressor with these specs?

Do you need a specific voltage for this one?

The DeWalt should do nicely, and is most likely not over-rated. That Craftsman might be. The DeWalt fits the 5cfm@90 requirement and charges the tank all the was to 200psi so you have some reserve. I don't know where cut-in is, though.

I don't have the DeWalt, but a discontinued Rigid model that has similar specs, and it is a beast.

Is 240v an option?

EDIT: Give me a price range and I'll give you a good recommendation.

I would like to stay with a 110v.I would spend up to $300/$350 range.
BTW,Thank You Kevin.

Not many people know about them, but Husky Pro has some good air compressors. This is one of my favorites, I used to work at Home Depot and did a large amount of research on air compressors. This one is oil-lubricated, will run on 110v, and is actually made by Campell-Hausefeld. Even the warranty is impressive. (Compressor says 4 yrs, web says 2. If anything the store will stick with what is printed on the compressor.)

Best part is, almost all Home Depots carry this model. Stop by and check it out. It's what I would get with the $$.

Husky Pro Air Compressor

Make sure if you get it, you read the manual for it's proper break-in. Manufacturers usually recommending running the compressor for an hour (with oil in it, of course) with the air outlet left open. But don't take my word, do what the manual says.

Dewalt and the Husky look like really great compressors. Price isn't bad neither.

I have had my Husky from Home Depot for a few years it is a 150 max psi 110v 20 gallon tank and not extremely loud I got it for something like 180.00 and have had no issues... It is mainly used for spray in truck bed liners that I do but I have used it for mechanics etc... I would highly recommend it!

Here it is: Husky 20 Gallon Vertical Portable Compressor - H1820F at The Home Depot

I was reading the home depot reviews, and it looks like the Husky has a lot of great reviews. People had it over 5 years and used it everyday in their shops, and it's running great. Looks like Husky makes great compressors.:xyxthumbs:
Thanks for sharing that.

That is a big part of why I bought mine...
