I’ve always wondered how some cars can look so glossy and clean and after reading this forum ever day for the past month, I think I’m beginning to understand the possibilities. I have to say there is some great knowledge in this forum and I’ve learned a lot so far. Enough to finally make a big purchase this past Friday with what I hope will be the beginning of a lifelong endeavor to detailing and maintaining my cars on my own.

After doing a ton of research on this forum and gathering everyone’s opinions through countless threads (in addition to Mike’s suggestions), I finally decided to go with the Wolfgang line of products. I also went with the Griot’s DA polisher and Lake County 5.5” pads and 5” backing plate (along with a host of other accessories).

While I realize that every car and paint is different, and that all products can and will produce different results, I’m perfectly happy and willing to dedicate a lot of TPTE (time, patience, trial and error). I’m fairly confident that what I’ve chosen is at a minimum a very good starting point. On to my two projects:

1) 2004 Lexus RX330 (Black)-The car last had a “detail” last year and not a very good one at that. The car has some swirls, not too bad but fairly obvious, and some minor scratches pretty much all around the car. It’s a daily driver that’s parked in the garage in the winter but is exposed to outdoor elements all day while it’s parked at the Metra train station during the day. My plan of attack for this car is the following:

-Wash with Auto Bathe
-Clay bar
-WG Total Swirl Remover
-WG Finishing Glaze
-WG Paintwork Polish Enhancer
-WG Deep Gloss Paint Sealant

Is this a good plan of attack? Do I have the order right? Are the Glaze and Enhancer products basically the same (use one or the other)? Any benefit to using both? Should I add a wax product after the sealant? Any and all input would be much appreciated.

2) 2011 Nissan Maxima (White)-Just bought the car last month and it’s what initially triggered my search for detailing products. I planned on using the same products as above except skipping the Swirl Remover step since it’s a new car.

Thanks again for reading and I look forward to reading everyone’s responses. :xyxthumbs:

Sorry, I should have posted my detailing questions in the detailing 101 section. Just read Mike's suggestion above.

Hi Sonny,

Welcome to Autogeek Online! :welcome:

Great selection and you should easily be able to get the results you're looking for the first time out...

Here's a couple of suggestions...

This is the intro forum. You'll tend to get a lot more and a lot better answers to your questions if you take and copy and paste your questions about your detailing project and then start a dedicated thread for how-to questions in a forum group for how-to questions instead of tagging them onto your intro thread.

Also, another friendly suggestion is if you're working on more than one project, start a dedicated thread for each project, like this,

Need suggestions for detailing my 2004 Lexus RX330

Need help for detailing my 2011 Nissan Maxima (White)

The reason for this is because you make it easier for all the friendly and helpful people on this forum to type out replies.

  • A good title that tells people what you're working on
  • A thread for each project

The Detailing 101 forum which is a catch-all forum for any kind of question.

Thanks Mike and James!

Mike, I already started one dedicated thread for both cars before reading your post. I'll just let it ride that way instead of flooding the forum with numerous threads.

Thanks again!

:welcome: To Autogeek Online!! :props:

I believe Wolfgang Paintwork Polish Enhancer is more of a cleaner and should be used before a sealant or wax is applied. If you're using Wolfgang Total Swirl Remover you won't need this step and it can be eliminated from the order above.

Welcome to an awesome and very informational and fun and....the list could go on...forum!

Thanks Meghan, Bobby and Doug!

Doug, Richton Park, I've done work in Matteson years back when Wells Fargo had some consumer offices in the area. Do you own a detail shop out there or is this a hobby for you? I've been less than satisfied with the detail shops in the Chicago and surrounding areas and wouldn't mind helping a member of this forum with and future referrals.

More of a hobby/addiction...lol! Doing neighbors and friends cars... Looking to eventually go pro :)
