I’ve always wondered how some cars can look so glossy and clean and after reading this forum ever day for the past month, I think I’m beginning to understand the possibilities. I have to say there is some great knowledge in this forum and I’ve learned a lot so far. Enough to finally make a big purchase this past Friday with what I hope will be the beginning of a lifelong endeavor to detailing and maintaining my cars on my own.
After doing a ton of research on this forum and gathering everyone’s opinions through countless threads (in addition to Mike’s suggestions), I finally decided to go with the Wolfgang line of products. I also went with the Griot’s DA polisher and Lake County 5.5” pads and 5” backing plate (along with a host of other accessories).
While I realize that every car and paint is different, and that all products can and will produce different results, I’m perfectly happy and willing to dedicate a lot of TPTE (time, patience, trial and error). I’m fairly confident that what I’ve chosen is at a minimum a very good starting point. On to my two projects:
1) 2004 Lexus RX330 (Black)-The car last had a “detail” last year and not a very good one at that. The car has some swirls, not too bad but fairly obvious, and some minor scratches pretty much all around the car. It’s a daily driver that’s parked in the garage in the winter but is exposed to outdoor elements all day while it’s parked at the Metra train station during the day. My plan of attack for this car is the following:
-Wash with Auto Bathe
-Clay bar
-WG Total Swirl Remover
-WG Finishing Glaze
-WG Paintwork Polish Enhancer
-WG Deep Gloss Paint Sealant
Is this a good plan of attack? Do I have the order right? Are the Glaze and Enhancer products basically the same (use one or the other)? Any benefit to using both? Should I add a wax product after the sealant? Any and all input would be much appreciated.
2) 2011 Nissan Maxima (White)-Just bought the car last month and it’s what initially triggered my search for detailing products. I planned on using the same products as above except skipping the Swirl Remover step since it’s a new car.
Thanks again for reading and I look forward to reading everyone’s responses. :xyxthumbs:
