So I finally committed to picking up the Griot’s 6” RO Polisher and was looking to use it this weekend, but before I do I was hoping to get some advise from you guys.

Persoanlly I like Meguiars products, but I was just curious on which pads to use with each compound. When I ordered the polisher I also picked up a orange correction pad, a couple black finishing pads and a red wax pad as well. When prepping my car/truck for waxing I first wash then clay bar then use the following meguiars products ultimate compound, polish and finally the wax. Would It be necessary to use the orange pad with the ultimate compound or can I just use a black pad for that? My plan was to then use another black pad for the polish and finally the red pad for the wax. Additionally, I was curious as to what speed to run the polisher at for each step?

Thanks in advance!

It really depends on how hard or swirled your paint it. DO A TEST SPOT FIRST. An orange pad with ultimate compound is not THAT aggressive of a combo. I would not bother using UC with the black pad. If anything, you could try ultimate polish with the orange pad. If that isn't enough, step up to UC with the orange pad. Save the black pad for finishing with UP or as a 1-step with UP(very light correction). I'd go speed 5-6 for correction. You're going to need more than 1 pad, at least orange. Also, clean the pad "on the fly" after every few section with a pad brush or MF towel. I clean the pad after every section, FWIW.

Did you get a 5” backing plate & pads? If not, you should.. [I don’t know why Griots even sells that machine with a 6” plate]

You should’ve gotten Orange cutting pads, White polishing pads, and Black finishing pads to apply ‘wax’.

Getting both black and red is redundant..

Besides all that, yes Meguiars Ultimate Compound will work great for you, but use it with the Orange pad not the Black.

^^What Eldo said^^

But, don't worry...... The bug has bitten you. Detailing bug that is.

You'll soon be getting more pads/products, and asking many more questions. (And most of us here on AGO are more than happy to answer them). :xyxthumbs:

Thanks for the great responses. I already ordered more pads as per recommendations haha. I guess the last thing is the recommended speeds for each? I see noted further up 5-6 for the ultimate compound, would this be the same for the polish and wax?

Sounds like a good plan.

I agree with Mark not to bother with Ultimate Compound with the black pad.

I recommend picking up more pads in general, as well as some microfiber pads.

Like Eldo said, get hooked up with a 5" pad / plate system. This will give you more correction power, and significantly reduce vibration.
