Griot's DA broke

I had the DA on speed 5, since that was my working speed. I was using lake country orange pad with ultimate compound.

Is speed 5 a little high? I take it down to speed 2 when cleaning on the fly. Of course, I guess that's not really "on the fly".

I'm glad you will be taken care of, because I also have the Griot's. :props:

Lifetime warranty redeemed!

It only took 21 days from sending the first email to me getting a new one. Apparently Autogeek had started filling out the paper work then it got lost. "Slipped threw the cracks." I am upset. I am a college student and details cars freelance. I was on winter break made calls and recuited. I had two jobs lined up and then two other people called to get there cars detailed as well. I had to turn them all down. One would of been a +25hour job, 3 stage full correction. Another would of been 12-15 hours and the last two were simple AIO 4-6hour jobs. That would of been a lot of money in my pocket. One job the owner is going to let me have a go at it again, but the others they went somewhere else. It was the holidays and people wanted a nice looking car. I couldn't do the work without a DA. I have a corded drill and some wool pads, but that won't do much of anything. I see why people buy 2 or more DA/rotaries for when one breaks down. Now I am back in school and going to be really struggling to pay rent and everything. Not to mention I always need more detailing supplies, pads and polish.

I am happy to have my new DA back. Its great to have the lifetime warranty. I bought from auto geek because of the good customer service reputation. I had this DA for 7months, then it broke. But the new one is working and I've been working. I got a carpet brush attachment

The DA brush really just lifts the dirt to the surface so you need to wipe it up with a towel. Actually you need to wipe everything, it flings dirt and apc everywhere. It will make alot of towels dirty, but its a bit less elbow grease. I used speed four. Works really well on door cards and kick plates, plastic, cloth, and delicate floor mats. Next time I do floor mats it will be using the outside sink or on the ground away from the car:

This is why I bought 2 up front. Great machine, but has issues with durability. I have an original PC thats 6 years old and it has never even slowed down.

Probably and speed would work as all you're doing is using the towel to remove,

  • Spent product
    [*]Removed paint

But when I clan my pads on the fly it's usually on whatever speed setting the DA polisher is on for the process being performed and that's usually the 5 to 6 speed setting.

The important thing is to clean your pad often when doing correction work. And for what it's worth, I've never had a towel get jammed in a DA polisher while cleaning the pad on the fly.

Why it's important to clean your pads often...

This is me using the Clean your Pad on the Fly Technique to clean my pad on the fly as we removed the oxidation off this Neon.

Im sorry you lost a few jobs over break. Having just graduated in december I am all too familiar with busting my butt over break to put some money in the bank account.

Hopefully you wont run into this again but if you do maybe just pick up another machine. I would have just bought a new machine to do the corrections. The money from one of those jobs would have paid for the new machine, so even if you would have broken even you would have had 2 machines and a happy customer that will potentially give you business in the future.

BUT most importantly keep up the good work in school! It can be rough but when you are finished and have that diploma that is something YOU accomplished and nobody can take it away from you.

My thoughts pecisely

I would've contacted Griots direct, as they are just up the road from you, whereas AG is on the other side of the Country

Sorry of your loss revenue. I have $10 I will contribute to your "Broke Fund" if it will help. Maybe others will too

This is exactly how I was holding the DA and the towel when I was cleaning on the fly. The towel had gotten stuck once before and the second time the DA broke on me as mentioned in the first post. I use terry cloth towels, but mine aren't as thick or as plush as yours.

I really belive in cleaning on the fly and I believe I should always work clean. I didn't mention but I am RN, nursing student. Washing hands, working clean and using aseptic technique and something sterile technique is important. In detailing its working clean.

I've gone back to cleaning like this:

I'm really embarrassed to show pictures of it to be honest. I tried wet sanding last summer. First time and I have some burn threw. I bought some touchup paint with the exact paint code and its way to dark. I guess its hard match old metallic paint. I can't afford a respray and it will so hard to sale the car on now. Leaks oil, odometer is broken, power windows don't work. However its a great car, alloys, leather, moon roof, amazing steering and handling. Its so fun to drive in the mountains. I love the car to bits, but it cost to much to insure $210 a month. A 95 civic would pay for itself in two years just from insurance savings. This benz has spoiled me, I want a luxury sedan that handles well, but I can't afford it. Maybe a 98 accord or a vw passat or an infinity g20.

I really really wish it looked this good right now. I ate myself for wet sanding with 1000 grit and burning threw the base coat.

I went with clear corner lights and fog lights, repainted the grill primer grey and bought some chrome for the grill. It feel it gives it a more modern feel and a bit more low profile, mafia type of look.
