Griot's Paint Prep...

NICE!!! I just got some from when they were on the BOGO. I will be trying this in the fall when I polish and wax my car for the winter. Right now I still hav great beading action and I love watching it bead up and roll off of the hood when I go to work in the morning. Its awesome!

Mark, I would be interested in your thoughts between OPC @ 3:1 vs Paint prep?

thanks!
Rene

:iagree: I was using OPC 3:1 yesterday to check my work and it's a bit of a pain to remove the residue without using water.

I've been using Pre Wax cleanser of and on. I do like it better than using IPA. That being said, on a heavily waxed or sealed car you might want to use water to remove some of the residue. That stuff works quick. It just gives you a much cleaner surface to start with. My $.02.

got to use it today and was amazed. easy. stripped current products with ease. a go to product if you want to start fresh.

Glad you like it! I have a gallon refill on the way.

how are you using it on your paint..are you spraying a panel down and then wiping it off..or are you spraying it down after a car wash while wet then rub it in like the video on griots?

Definitely spay after a wash when wet, rub it in, rinse.

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but Mark what did you not like about Chemical Guys Citrus Wash?

Also which version? I got confused when I looked at ALL the Citrus Wash that they sell but I believe they have like three versions? CG Citrus Wash, CG Citrus Wash and Gloss, and CG Citrus Wash and Wax or something like that.

So what was that was not to your liking? Just asking since I'm about to order up a gallon jug.

You know Mark, I bought some of this on a BOGO a few weeks ago and recently gave it a try. I was very surprised to see how well it works and a simple wash / rinse with clean water is all that's needed once the products through working..

  • East to use
  • Works Great
  • Economically priced on BOGO
Good stuff - :props:

I actually do like CG Citrus Wash. It great for washing really dirty cars, but at the "paint stripping" dilution, I don't feel it does as good of a job stripping waxes or sealants as Griot's PP.

Are you going with the wash n' gloss or wash n' clear?

Agreed, 100%, Bobby.

Thanks Mark.

Also I was going to go with just the CG Citrus Wash.

Noticed that they now sale:
CG Citrus Wash
CG Citrus Wash and Gloss
CG Citrus Wash and Clear
CG Maxi Suds II

Go with the citrus wash for sure(orange stuff) if you want the strongest soap.

Maybe I am a little slow today because I am still at work (going on 12 hours...), but I am a little confused about the difference between GG Paint Prep and Pre-Wax Cleaner. Per AG, Paint Prep:

Use Griot's Garage Paint Prep to remove old wax and polysilicones for a squeaky clean start before you polish and wax. This pre-wax cleaner spray preps your vehicle for a the best possible finish by promoting better bonding of waxes and a more even shine from polishes. Griot's Garage Paint Prep is the pre-wax cleaner you spray on!

Per AG, Pre Wax Cleaner:

Griot's Garage Pre-Wax Cleaner cleans and conditions auto paint after polishing to restore maximum gloss before wax application. Griot's Garage Pre-Wax Cleaner prepares the paint to accept a wax or paint sealant for the best looking, longest lasting finish. Don't wax without it!

Looks to me like the Paint Prep will strip wax AND polish residue prior to waxing, whereas the Pre-Wax Cleaner is strictly for us after polishing. i just got my BOGO order of Paint Prep today and found this thread since I was searching for method of application that people have used. Bottle says to spray on and rub in with palm of hand. i as hoping for a more QD-like application...

Mark, looks like you sprayed on, wiped with a wash sponge, and rinsed with plain water, correct? That is easy enough for me.

Thanks,
Neil

that is the way i used it sunday (paint prep) washed with usuall soap (to remove dirt etc) rinsed. sprayed it on. wiped with a older wash mitt i had. then rinsed again. made short work of removing dp poli sealant, 845, and a few coats of wgdgss.

Neil and everyone else, let's not make this tougher than it is. ;) Griot's paint prep is EASY to use!! Wash the car, rinse, spray each panel and massage each panel as you spray it on, rinse! EASYYYYYYYY!!!! :)

The difference in function is paint prep is apparently more aggressive and can strip sealants while pre-wax is good for stripping polishing oils but not strong enough for removing sealants.

The difference in application is paint prep is applied, agitated, and rinsed off while pre-wax is simply spray on and wipe off.

So the pre-wax is applied like Eraser while the paint prep is applied like every paint stripping apc we have used in the past.

:iagree: 100% maybe a good sticky for anyone else asking!

Good analysis, bud. :props:
