Griots products and boss system, why I'm switching!

The good news is that these companies are coming out with legitimately improved products for the end users.

Wether it be tools, liquids, pads, accessories the improvements continue.

Really glad to see Griots continue to get their due for what they have done recently. They completely earned me back after I had bad experiences with their early polishes and Best of Show Wax. I love my G21 and reach for it more often than my MKII Rupes. Still working towards replacing my pads with the Boss ones, as I really enjoy using them, and Fast Correcting Cream has replaced everything except M101 for me.

Poly Wax is something that I have a feeling will catch on more at some point as well, and their PFM towels are fantastic. Home run after home run as of late.

I used to only use Rupes and meguiars products as well until I decided to pick up a G21 along with some BOSS polishes and pads. I was extremely impressed from the very beginning of handling the g21. While I still do use my Rupes 21 mark ii, I do pair my Rupes with BOSS pads and creams most of the time just because I always get very consistent results.

Everytime I think I've decided on G15 vs Rupes 15 Mk II someone lobs another shell which explodes in indecision. Now you've also got me questioning my appliances.

Sure, doesn't Fiat own Dodge LOL.

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, also known as FCA, is an Italian-controlled multinational corporation

The CEO and executive management including twenty-two employees work between Auburn Hills, Michigan and Turin, Italy.[13] The other operating activities of the new group remained unchanged, with manufacturing, design and engineering facilities remaining in Turin, Italy, Auburn Hills, Michigan, United States and other locations worldwide, including Canada, India, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Poland, and China.

This is pretty interesting:

In today's global economy, there's no easy way to determine just how American a car is. Cars.com's American-Made Index looks at cars on a model-by-model basis, not by manufacturer. It recognizes cars that are assembled here, using a high percentage of domestic parts, and which are bought in large numbers by American consumers.
Five of this year's eight AMI cars are from foreign-based automakers; the last time a Detroit Three vehicle topped the AMI was in 2014, when the Ford F-150 pickup truck ranked No. 1. (This year's F-150, like many other vehicles, fell below the AMI's 75-percent eligibility threshold for domestic-parts content.) But in a year when auto manufacturing has been the subject of controversy on the presidential campaign trail, it's important to remember the AMI rates cars, not automakers.

And if he bought them prior to the Fiat take over, then he bought a Diamler vehicle. LOL Not AMERICAN.

the BOSS polishers were built from the ground up from with each component scrutinized and chosen. it's tiresome to keep saying that they are rupes knock-offs when they only have the similiar/same throw in common.

What about the identical counterweights? Lol.

... But seriously, if you want my honest opinion I'll say that I like being able to custom fit my pad size to fit the vehicle/situation all the way from largest, to a near tight squeeze all with the same polisher/G21, without having to sacrifice its performance in any way. Now that's what I call value for my hard earned buck. Same can't be said for the more expensive MARKll.

what people don't realize it's not like they got a polisher and slapped their label on it. they had a cast mold and had input/control from everything from the outside/inside. also the R&D that went into using it with the different backing plate, pads, innerflex, and creams which spanned over close to two years. jeff brown had a hand in the creation of the megs DA microfiber system so having his knowledge and input has spoken/shown and only continues to help move GG forward (lots of talented people over at GG). with all this talk about the BOSS G15/21, let's not forget the GG6 which is one heck of a DA as well!

to the OP: i've never met rod kraft but i'm sure he is very knowledgeable and will help move GG ahead with his input/experience...

Do the BOSS polishes/compounds work with any DA and pad set up, or are they designed specifically to work with a long throw GG polisher and their associated pads?

I don't have a GG DA, but like all the reviews I'm hearing regarding the polishes. My current compound/polish stock is starting to run down and I could buy a bottle of all three grades of the BOSS polish for about the same price of two grades of polish from other brands.

They work with any pad or DA setup.

The BOSS polishes are fantastic for medium to hard paint, but tend to be a pain to remove on softer paint.

That's VERY helpful! Thank you.

Right now, I've got three vehicles to maintain. One with very soft paint, one in the middle, and one very hard. From what you're saying even the Perfecting Cream on a polishing pad wouldn't do well on soft paint? By the sounds of things I may need to stick with multiple products or look at another product line if I want to consolidate down to one.

Thx Wrapt. Just the info I was seeking on ~soft paint removal~

I find as long as you use the foam pad on softer paint it wipes fine, as far as the Jescar the fast cut is every bit as good and wipes even easier

When I got back into professional detailing a few years ago, I went with the Megs Detailer line. Meguiars was a name I've known and trusted so it was an easy decision. I had not even heard of Griots until a few years ago. Heard a few good things about them, found out the flagship store was 20 minutes from me. Went to check them out....amazing place. Spent a couple hours there talking with their reps who I've come to know very well. Picked up a few things including a GG6 and 3 set of polishers. Great products!! Couple years later....I picked up a G21 at the product launch event at the store after talking with Jeff Brown for awhile, another great tool! The pad and cream(s) in the BOSS system are just awesome IMHO. They just work very well, easy removal, long work times and NO dusting at all. The machines get used almost daily with only 1 issue, a power cord problem on my original GG6 and it was replaced on the spot with no questions!
I'm working my way to using 90+% of Griots products as I used up my current stock of Megs (and it helps that I'm so close to the store too!). All of the Griots products I try out just work, and work very well. Do not be afraid to try anything from Griot's Garage....I'm sure you will be impressed!

Mike

Even though I am currently not using Griot's for my business. They still are awesome.

When I get questions from people who want the "instant" solution at the local auto parts store, Griot's is ALWAYS the first thing I mention.

A while back, I had trialled the G21 for a month before I gave it back to them. Even though I went with a Rupes for XYZ reasons, the G21 did amazing once I learned the long-throw (like 5 seconds with it...)

If my Rupes went down today, I would actually go with the G21 all over again. The grips and ergonomics are phenomenal!

Recreational detailer here, but: I switched to Griot's stuff years ago after moving away from parts-store products. I've always had good luck with anything of theirs I've tried. Their stuff as mentioned has just been getting better and better.

I was glad to see Mike giving the Complete Compound high praise on his Challenger write up, as I've been using that since it came out and have really liked it. Very easy to work with. I got the BOSS Correcting and Perfecting Creams to try when I do my next round, and am excited to see how they compare.

I will admit- the old Best Of Show liquid wax wasn't exactly idiot proof, and the old Machine Polish X's were dusty and harder to wipe off (though that was back when I was just learning - there may have been some over-application involved... New(er) favorites include the BOSS pads, Liquid Gloss Poly Wax, their Premium Carnauba Paste Wax is awesome, and obviously anything PFM.

Speaking of parts-store products, I was in my local Auto Zone two weeks ago where I picked up a bottle (the last one) of Paint Protect 365...for $1.77! Anyway, I happened to notice that my AZ stocked an impressive amount of GG products: a GG6, MF and foam pads, 3 types of BOSS creams and window, leather and interior cleaners. Good to know in the event of a "detailing emergency!" I'm not sure if this is the case because GG is a local (WA) company or if all AZ's carry Griot's line now. One of these days I'll make the trip to the flagship store (heck, it's only 20 minutes from the LeMay!).

I've been a Griot's cutomer since the early 1990's. Ive bought a ton of stuff from them over the years and never been disappointed. Superb customer service as well. I've got a Rupes 21 MKII and just ordered a G15 on black Friday. I like variety and never stick to a single brand. Cant wait to receive it and put it to good use.
