Had a visitor to the garage today

I did a little reading on that snake. Looks like they don’t like handling, they defecate a nasty musky mess it sounds like if so.

Snakes are ok with me if not poisonous. Glad it wasn’t an invasive species as well.

Count me in with the crowd that’s more afraid of spiders.
 
We have a few black racers in our yard (we backup on some woods) and appreciate them but I stay far away. They like small rodents, and are welcome to them!
 
I'm not a fan of snakes at all, the safe types or the dangerous types. I get they serve a purpose in the cycle of life, but eh.... don't want to be around them. I saw a big Black Racer last week in the bushes while walking the dog. If I would have had my phone on me I would have snapped a pictures.

Killed a Cottonmouth also called a Water Moccasin


Besides the Water Moccasin, you'll also see pictures of a Coral Snake my wife killed in our front yard.


A few summers ago my wife Stacy killed this with a Butcher Knife in our front yard...

And yes, this is the real deal... a Coral Snake

I’m pretty sure it was a cottonmouth that got into my living room in the pitch black dark at 3 in the morning a few years ago. I didn’t see it and I *stepped* on it.

I had to get it out of the house by using a broom handle and a bucket. Luckily no visitors in my house since!

Woooaah! Stacy’s Bad Ass! A butchers knife??? That’s close combat, I would’ve taped that knife to the longest pole I could find & then do it ..... Go Stacy!!! :props:

Never been in a situation to handle a snake (safer one obviously) but I think I’d be okay with that .... spiders though - NOPE NOPE & NOPE!!!

My weapon of choice for snakes is a small gauge (.410) shotgun.

Garter snakes are very welcome on my property.

They feed almost exclusively on crickets (noise makers), spiders, and black flies.

A welcome ally to me.
 
When I was 9 or so my grandpa made me a bow out of a PVC pipe he cut up. He took some of his arrows, removed the tips and put rubber tip on them so I couldn't do any real damage. We were hiking thru the hills later that day when I heard a sound, I walked around this rock and saw a rattle snake about 5 feet away from me. I guess I wanted to be Daniel Boone, so I slowly started to reach for my rubber tip arrow so I could shoot it, I remember the focus I had as I was pulling the string back. Lucky for me my grandpa saw what I was doing and quickly came and stopped me. Had I been exploring on my own I probably would have shot it, errr attempted to shoot it. Doubt a rubber tip would have done anything 'cept badly piss the rattler off.

I wasn't a nature kid so I had never shot anything or even thought about doing it until that moment lol.
 
Mike, your wife is bad ass. I wouldn’t get that close to that snake.
 
Coral snakes are generally quite docile and harmless to humans unless handled and pissed off. They have fangs. It's usually children who find them, don't know about them, handle them, anger or frighten them, and get their little fingers bitten.
