So I went to Advance Auto to get a new lambswool wash mitt, and as I'm leaving, a young lady backs out of a parking spot in her 2008 Kia Rio, and smacks right into my passenger side front quarter panel! Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! :awman::bash::rant::bat::argue::mad::(:nomore::cry: Got her driver's license and insurance information and all that. Contacted her insurance company, and they told me to get some estimates and fax them to their office. Went to two different places tonight for some estimates, and between the replacing, repairing, painting, sanding, etc., looks like it will probably cost $2200 to fix. Since my car is only probably worth $3500 tops, if her insurance company wants to just give me a check directly, I may just get the dents fixed and live with the rest of it. It sucks royally, and I was planning to do a correction and Opti-Coat here in the near future. Just bummed out right now, especially since this would have been completely avoidable had she been paying attention when she backed out of her parking spot.

nice big dent

tore off part of my wheel well lining

Scuffed up her bumper pretty good, but it looked like it would probably mostly come out with a good compound on a DA. Guess she just hit me in the wrong place. Sucks that my car would have the most damage, especially when I was completely not at fault. Oh well. #### happens, I suppose.

A year ago, I wouldn't have cared so much about that damage. After being introduced to our warped little world of detailing and going over our cars with a magnifying glass before we leave for work (you know who you are), I sympathize completely.

Sorry to hear Shane. I bet the body shops couldn't believe how good your paint looked though! Hope all works out well for you.

Damn man I'm sorry to hear this. Everyone is so distracted these days and not paying attention. I find myself always watching other drivers, even in the rear view mirrow, when I'm driving. I hate it. My next vehicle will be a helicopter.

Aww man, sorry to hear that. Hopefully you'll get a nice check out of it.

That sucks dude. It could have been worse though (like she hit your vehicle while you were inside and then left without saying anything, which happened to me a couple of weeks ago). The most important part is no one was hurt though.

Bummer... Sorry to hear about the mishap. Good luck with whatever path you choose.

Really sorry to hear that Shane. I'm sure you're really bummed out. I'm not sure what's more frustrating, when it's your fault or someone else's. About a month after DetailFest I ran into the back of someone and messed up the front of my car. I remember your car from DetailFest and it's in fantastic shape, personally I hope you get it fixed.

Yeah, sorry man...hope they can get all the parts.

It's really bad...it's not just the cell phones, iPads, laptops, it's all the darn nav systems, satellite radio, etc. that are actually built into the cars. Touch screens, iDrive...you gotta take your eyes off the road for everything...I'm surprised there aren't more accidents than there are.

That sucks.
sorry to hear the bad news.
So take the money and save it for a future down payment on another vehicle, and try to fix your cutlass yourself.
To me, It's not worth putting $2200 in a $3500 vehicle unless, it has a lot of sentimental value.

It's a damn shame that so many people don't pay attention while driving anymore, it's almost as if driving is the secondary priority while in the car. It does suck and I know how you feel. My wife was rear ended a few weeks back and the driver who hit her fled the scene after causing damage to 3 other vehicles. My wife's car was deemeed a total loss due to a bent frame. It's just too bad that the jackwagon who hit her has no idea the amount of damage he caused.

That sucks! When you get the money, go back to a shop that you trust and ask about a cash deal with you supplying the parts. Then off to the wrecking yard and find some good used parts that will paint up nicely. Insurance estimates for new OEM parts and since they are getting painted anyway, color doesn't matter. If you feel like you can do it, put it back together yourself and save even more. You may even be able to work a little barter action for some detail work and put a few bucks in you pocket or hit the next BOGO hard.

I'm really sorry to hear of your misfortune. I hope your car can be restored to your satisfaction.

That really sucks Shane. :(. I'm sorry for your troubles buddy. Hang in there.

That really stinks Shane. I think everyone's had this happen and all because of piss poor driving capability..Or being on a cell phone...

At least you were not hurt and the car is able to be driven. I would take the check and see what you can do to fix most of it yourself.
So many text and drive these days I am surprised there isn't a huge increase in accidents.

That really sucks.

I guess she was using the "drive by feel" technique that is so popular these days. Driving has become the 2nd, 3rd or 4th priority AFTER talking on the phone, texting, talking with friends, etc.

Sorry about your misfortune. Luckily, the insurance didn't try to weasel out by saying it happened on private property, or try to say your car is totalled.

Like some others have mentioned, take the check, try to find some good used parts and a shop you trust to put them on, or do it yourself. You can probably hide some of the scratches a bit until you find what you need.

Good luck!
