Has anyone actually tried the Chemical Guys J-97 $999.00 wax?

It's ALL hype, I read about an experiment where they took wine tasters and had them judge a selection of expensive wines and some cheaper ones, all rated the pricey ones higher. Guess what - the guys doing the test switched bottles. It's all in perception, if I paid $1,000.00 for wax, darn right it'd look better than something off the shelf at Autozone. Let's don't get caught up in the hype shall we, times are tough, be sensible and yeah, it's your (hobby, addiction, therapy, etc) but jeez, put your $ toward paying off that credit card, putting some in savings so when the washer quits and ain't fixable, you won't have to sell blood to get another. I know a lot won't get this, but trust me when I say, if you don't - just wait a few years and you'll wish you had.

sorry junebug but i am 64 years old worked hard got lucky in life and now have the waxes i dreamed of. noticeable difference yeah maybe a little but you cant generalize about people, and their choices in life. i would put turtle wax on by hand if necessary. i use both collinite and swisswax.

More like who hasn't?
Fuzion is my limit lol :D

What would you do if you heard dodo juice came out with a super duper last all year long, repels snow and ice, water and dirt and everything else wax for 899.00.

Hmmmmm.... LOL

Dave, my point was geared to the young guys that are chasing that "uber duber" holy grail and do NOT have the $$ flowing like the Mississippi out their backsides. I am all for investing in quality - whether it's tools, cars, clothes, whatever. Good stuff will last, I have a Snap On screwdriver that's 30 years old and looks brand new, I've tossed a dozen "crapsman" ones in to trash over the years.
But there's a point where it's style over substance.

I have yet to see a sensible person using the super exotic waxes... as others have said, the differences are very small when comparing a high end wax with an exotic one so the only people I have encountered using it are the people who will actively inform people about how their wax costs as opposed to those who just want a good look.

In any case, you don't have to sell many $1k pots to make it worthwhile!!

This reminded me of another product where price gets ridiculous - Wine. Whenever I hear of someone spending $1000.. $1500.. $2500.. and up on wine, I always have to wonder - "What the heck makes any wine worth this much??" Can a person really tell the difference between a $150 bottle and a $1500 bottle?

For most, I think it's more about being able to say "I just drank a $1500 bottle of wine (yes I'm THAT rich)"

or "Yep, this car was waxed with $1000 wax. How cool am I?"

That said, I'd NEVER pay that much for wax when I can get Collinite 845 for $20 or even Pinnacle Souveran or Fuzion for $60.

...now if I could get a tub for FREE.. heck yeah I'd use the crap out of it. They're actually running a contest right now to give a tub of this stuff away. I hope it's okay to link here.. Everyone should submit their email to try to win a tub. This link redirects. Chemical Guys Monthly Sweepstakes

Whoa!!
Talk about a thread's overall subject matter
having a weird effect:

It's either an astral projection; a misinterpretation of
spatiotemporal boundaries; or a cruel, vicarious adaptation
of the book Apparitions...

But I believe I am having an out-of-money-experience.

If I had a million dollar car I would consider this stuff just because but since I drive a normal persons car I feel the most I would spend is about $30

Trust me when I say this, spend literally a couple bucks over your budget and get some Collinite #915. It will be the best indulgence you can do for your car

Anything past Fuzion or Souveran is meaningless to me. Really anything past MaxWax is a special case. MaxWax has produced some of the best finished I've seen in person. Souveran is my baby for paint that really just glows.

Ill spend the $999 in prep materials and throw on Megs cleaner wax w. Carnauba before I go with something like that. Products in that price bracket range that are merely LST products really appeal to people who can market to folks who just have nothing better to do than toss cash into a live flame. This reminds me of that stuff in the crystal containers that you apply with bare hands.

Yeah... ok. Sure. Wonder how much profit is in that product..

Did I mention I won this on Autopia during their Christmas giveaway. I have yet to use it but the container is real nice. I haven't even opened the container. Not sure when I will use it. It's nice because I would never spend this much on a wax. But for free I'm not complaining.

•Is it:
-Our choices in life: show what we truly are?

•And/Or, is it:
-I never tolerate someone telling
me how to spend my money?

How were they able to give away something so rare and expensive like that😏

There's a market for just about everything. If I had the money I might want to try zymol vintage, but at this point, it seems weird that my wax would cost as much as my machines, pads, and abrasives do together. Especially considering it would be for personal use.

It's "retail-therapy" gone amok, I tell ya!!

Man, I read through this whole thread hoping SOMEONE had actually tried the stuff!

We're pretty close though! On of us has it! Unless Guz's wax isn't j97. I don't know their line well.

Because the mark up is probably 1000%. Really what is in one a wax that cost $50.00 compared to $100.00 compared to $1000.00. I'd be willing to bet not $1000.00 worth of nubas, or other oils. it's all marketing. Well, maybe the container cost $20.00 :dblthumb2:
