has anyone tried the flex xc3401vrg yet.

From the information that I gathered talking with Powerhouse Distributing and some other online retailers, I think the best way for places such as AG to sell the Flex is part of a package deal. Recently, I've seen one other retailer selling the Flex outside of Powerhouse. You figure that folks are going to need some pads and probably some polishes to get up and running fully with it. Kind of like the PC and UDM packages you see. I think the Powerhouse price by itself is going ot be pretty tough to beat since they are so closely connected with Flex in the first place.

I actually wish I knew about this machine before I bought my UDM. I am totally happy with the UDM, but it would have been interesting to consider. Sounds like a good middle ground between a DA and a rotary.

Of direct drive? I can not remember did I take/post any so if they are not in my gallery on other site let me know and I will take them when my replacement bp arrives.
My 5" bp arrived today (it is my understanding 5.5" ones are still on backorder) so unless I forget I will take pics of direct drive as I am swapping backing plates.

You made my day! That Flex is on the ol Bug's Christmas list, I think the wife is just giving me the nod to order it and will pay for it when it comes in.

I'm happy for you :) I hope it justifies all of your expectations.

Just wait to you use it for the first time......your gonna love it.:righton:

It is everything that ZoranC says it is. I went soley off his and redg35's posts on this and I couldn't be happier with my purchase. My PC is now relegated to shampoo duty only. I'm going to try and get a full fledged review with pics up soon. I'm telling you this thing is the next best thing to a rotary without the super steep learning curve. The Flex is like a PC on steroids.

Yeaaaaa another member to the flex club.

It's definitely good to see the Flex community growing. I'll be doing a Honday Odyssey minivan this weekend with it. I usually post reviews and pics on Autopia, but will have to post some pics here as well. Right now my plan of attack is orange pad + Menz IP + speed 6 and let the big dog eat!!!

Awwwww, don't hurt poor Flex' feelings by saying it is like a PC, even if on steroids ;) For start they are two completely different approaches. PC is a sander that is a polisher wannabe. Flex is a pure bred and raised polisher approach.

(No criticism meant, I hope my saying is not misunderstood)

No I get it and like your comparison better... do you mind if I plagerize you in my review?

Pretty please! :D Just please quote the source and I will waive my copyright fees (which are reasonable to start with, I get paid in infamous a.k.a. Patrick's candies) for you. ;)

Does the 1/2" make that much difference? Just curious what applications you would have for the 5" that you couldn't use the 5.5"? Also, what pads have you found to work well with Flex? Been reading posts some pads are making the machine difficult to control or jumps around a lot.

Amazingly, I already can't wait for the Spring.

Thanks,
Howard

Answer is "no", "yes", and "in the end it doesn't matter". For me it is not about application but about "fitment" between bp and pad and having flexibility in choice. 5.5" bp is IMHO perfect for 6.5" pads and it lets you use 6" pads while still having some safety margin between edge of bp and edge of pad. Also it will let you use 5.5" pads but with no safety margin plus they should be of style that has velcro edge to edge. 5" is IMHO perfect for 6" pads, it lets you use 5.5" pads while still having some safety margin between edge of bp and edge of pad, plus it will let you use 5" pads but with no safety margin but they should hopefully be of style that has velcro edge to edge. ... and I already own quite a number of 5.5" and 5" pads.

In the end it doesn't matter as 5" bp is not their standard bp, it is my understanding only limited number of them was made and they, plus some black 6" bps, were handed out as replacements for 6" red bps while final design, 5.5" black, arrives and once inventory is gone they are gone, and it is my understanding inventory of them is gone. So in the end that is irrelevant for any future owner.

Also, what pads have you found to work well with Flex?
I use flat style pads on every one of my machines but please notice that has nothing to do with which pad works best with which tool, it is my personal preference for pads regardless of which tool I end up reaching for. With that in mind Wolfgang pads from AG I owned before purchasing Flex ended up doing just fine with it and so did other Lake Country flat pads obtained from other sources.

Now that i no how easy the flex breaks down the menzerna polish,s i am going to try something new just for the heck of it.Early this year i bought some presta ultra light cutting cream mistakenly thinking it would work with the pc.........boy was i wrong.I think with the power that the flex has it should have no problem breaking down the presta. When i try it i let you guy,s know if it work,s or not.

My money is on that it will not have issue breaking down Presta. Until I got Flex I was frustrated with Menzerna (Power Gloss and SIP) and was blaming it on polish being finicky. However, when I later ended up reaching for same polish but with Flex it was a night and day difference. So I looked at result, looked at polish, looked at tool in my hand, wondering what changed, and then slapped myself on the forehead "D'oh, ZoranC, you jumped to assumption about polish when it could be that culprit was you were trying to use it with UDM and it could be that UDM just doesn't have the umph to do the Menzerna properly". Which means I should have known better because, for example, only some in Meguiar's line of polishes are declared as DA compatible while others state "rotary only". So I will be giving my relationship with Menzerna another try.

Zoran thanks for getting me involved with the flex........its the best machine i have ever used.Menzerna is a piece of cake to break down with the flex but im gonna try presta next since i heard so many good things about it on the other site........i wont stop using menzerna though.

I tried Presta 1500 with a rotary and foam pad, turned into a gummy mess. I switched to Optimum OHC and it was fine - not buffer hopping and no gummy mess. FWIW - I've since gone to HiTemp for compounds/polishes, as they are more "bubba" proof with me!

Any time :) I am glad I was able to help you spend your money :D While on the subject of helping spend the money, where is thejoyofdriving? Last time I heard from him was when he PM-ed me for address to get Flex at but no word ever since then.
