wow thats awesome and amazing turn around. Im looking to do my headlights soon just need to learn more about sanding and what not
 
Very nice Mark!! Look gorgeous! I bet you could skip a couple grades of paper there but you certainly can't make them look any better than that!

C, I think you're right. :props: I haven't done many headlights, so I played it conservative. Which grits do you think I could have skipped?

Wet sanded with all grits. I could do dry or wet with the autonet grits, but I stuck with wet. Abralon discs have to be used wet.

Hybrid pads are the new line Lake Country is coming out with. I'm beta testing them for LC.

C, I think you're right. :props: I haven't done many headlights, so I played it conservative. Which grits do you think I could have skipped?

Treat it just as you would a polish job, test section, 1000 grit wet is pretty aggressive. Doing plastic is going to clog it pretty quick so wet would be a better choice IMO and you'll get more consistent cut also. You don't want to create more work so only go down as far as you need to. In other words don't start at the bottom and work up.
 
1000 grit wet is pretty aggressive.
It really depends on what kind of 1000 grit you're using. Some have less leveling ability than others. I didn't think of a test spot. :doh:

EXCELLENT Job Mark!
Maybe something to consider to help cut your process/time in half.
I have around (50) auto lens correction under my belt,posted a few threads last year early 2011' here on AG and these are the 4 steps I use:
3M HooKit Gold
3M HooKit White
3M Trizact
Finish up with orange/white(either work well) spot pad and 3M Plastic Polish(or a quality fine/finishing polish).

None the less,SUPERB results and dramatically well done :dblthumb2:

Great job Mark, the results are outstanding! BTW I use the same 4 steps as Chris. I use the 3" disks on a high speed drill. It works well too and is very fast. ...
 
Nice turn around. Nothing like seeing the clarity come back in headlights.
