Having some trouble with paint correction on this XLR

Love black cars. No where to hide bad technique on black paint. You either do it right, or it looks like crap

Wow! Way to stick with the job and finish the right way!!

You may need a rotary buffer to correct that abused black finish.

Don't jinx me :) How ya think it looks so far?

Looks good from the pictures man. Finish it out nice and you are set. Caddy black is hard but it responds well when worked properly. When you get a chance try some sur-buf pads with the 105 when you have conditions like this car again. Speeds up the cut and is very uniform. I have tried micro fiber pads 2x, not a fan but I have only tried them twice. Post pics of finished product. Good luck

Absolutely perfect on the hood. Great job and sounds like your learning a lot. Looking forward to the after shots.

Looks good.

I remember when M105 first came out, it was a real game changer, I used it with a wool pad on a Mustang that looked like Bumblebee from the Transformer Movie and it left such a nice finish no one could believe it. Pics are on MOL somewhere.

Mike can you give me any tips on the DA micro-marring or hazing?

The tip is to avoid it and the way you do that is use pads and products that don't inflict it.

The only way to see it sometimes is to strip the paint, same for buffer swirls from a rotary buffer.

Polishing oils tend to fill in fine scratches creating the appearance of a swirl free finish or a finish free from micro-marring. If you apply a good wax, paint sealant or coating you might never see any swirls or micro-marring especially if you or your customer maintains the coating.

If you just start washing the car and never add any more wax, sealant or coating, then sooner or later, if there are swirls in the paint they will show up under bright sun like you're using now to showcase the results.

:)

Great work on the car, persistence paid off....big time!

Was at Advance Auto Parts yesterday... I never realized how much M105 and M205 cost!! 105 was $38 and 205 was $41... How long does a bottle last? In terms of cars it will treat.

They're a lot cheaper on AG. I think m205 is like 25 bucks. I wouldn't buy them at auto parts stores unless you run out in the middle of a job and desperately need it.

AutoZone here in town it was 68 with tax for both in the 32oz bottles. I couldn't afford to wait to order them so had to go that route.

105/205 at the local auto parts is crazy expensive. Most of the Meguiars stuff they sell is though. It is nice to know that I can run down the street and pick up pads and other stuff when I'm in a bind though

The hood looks great. I think you have it figured out. Remember to clean the pads often to avoid causing any hazing or marring.

I have the pad brush but what else should I do for cleaning between panels?

There's a way to clean foam pads on the fly using a terry cloth towel and a "rolling" technique, I'll try to take a video to show you how.

You have to be careful though so you don't hurt yourself...

Then there's pad washers if you have one...

:)
Awesome thanks Mike. If things pick up for me a pad washer is on the list for sure

If you want good pads, try meguiars red and black cutting pads the red microfiber and m105 works effectively yet efficiently

Just picked up all three of the Soft Buff 2.0 pads today. I think now with that and the 105/205 I should be set!
