Hello everyone, I'm glad I finally joined up. I flirted with joining all the way back in 2005 but was too green and nervous about burning through paint in those days. I'm a member of a couple Lexus forums and a MOD in one also. I've been reading this forum as well as the MEGS forum. I don't know if this is the correct forum to ask advise as well as introduce yourself but here goes. I have a crystal white pearl LS 430 and an Obsidian Black GS 350 (wifes car) that I need to start maintaining properly. I looked into getting them detailed properly but after I added up I told myself If I can change Timing belts, starters and remove cams on an LS I should be up to the task of Learning how to use a DA. I went low budget with the harbor freight DA since I read a lot of good reviews on here and to make sure i would stick with it before I invest more money. Anyway The GS has swirls all over the car as well as scuffs and light scratches. The LS has some swirls but they are not as noticeable as the ones on the GS. Check out the pics of the cars and also the supplies I have to tackle the job. I'm a little nervous but I'm going to try my hand. My plan is to do the roof, trunk and maybe the hood in one day and depending on my success or lack thereof get the rest of the car done over 2-3 weeks since I can only fool with the cars on my days off. I plan to start with the black car since it needs the most work.

Welcome to the forum. You should add a chemical decon like Iron X and clay. Better than clay is a clay pad or mitt or towel such as Nanoskin. If one is dropped on the ground, simply wash off and continue. If clay is dropped, throw away. There is very little risk using a DA buffer. Have you watched any YouTube videos on detailing?

I actually clayed both cars 2 weeks ago due to the GS having a bad case of baked on brake dust on the drivers side lower panels. That's what lead me to search for a professional detailer. I saw what condition the paint was in and knew I had to do something. I've watched plenty of youtube videos as well as most of Mikes how to videos. My brain is on detail overload lol. I'm hoping that the MEGS products are up to the task but if not I have no problem stepping up to whatever will get the job done. Time is my only issue as of now. I can get 1 solid day a week so that's why I have to stretch it out. If the products work with my beginners technique i have no problem putting a days work into it.

Both Meguiars cutting and polishing pads work great. To maintain maximum cutting, clean the pads often, M105 dries fairly quickly and dusts a lot

Glad to be here.

I've read extensively about the 105 drying quickly and that kind of worries me but I bought it so i'll see if I'm a fast enough learner to use it. If not I'll move to something more user friendly. I have 2 Meg MF cutting pads and waiting for 2 finishing pads to come in the mail. I don't know if I'll be able to use them since I read that you need air to clean them effectively after I purchased them. Whatever i can't use now I'll just store until I'm good enough. I did do a test spot on the scratches on the trunk with a white pad and the 205. It cleaned it where you can only see the scratches if you look real close but they are still there. I felt like I was applying a lot of pressure and going pretty slow. I made sure the BP was rotating and did 4 section passes.

To extend the life of M105, a spray of water on the pad or a quick detailer. How are you liking the blue waterless wash? I have the same brand and ONR

I have not used it yet, I bought it so once I get the paint sorted I can invest the time to make sure no one jacks up the paint again.
