help decide swirl/cut and polish for Z06

Nice work! I haven't worked with any of the Boss creams. I've been tempted but I've recently been working with the Rupes system. I've heard nothing but great things about the Boss creams.

The boss creams and pads are really easy to use, with amazing results.

I have been a die hard menzerna fan.

But let me tell you I reach for my boss creams first every time.

The boss creams don't dust, they work wet with a long polish time, they wipe off with a breeze, and they even smell great while doing all this.

And they have no fillers.

The rupes polishing pads and finishing pads I love.

However I haven't had time to get adjusted to that blue, green, or UHS pad yet.

Some people only like the yellow or white rupes pads.

The blue rupes pad I tried testing it a few times and a little difficult to work , considering the other user friendly systems out there.

Give the cutting boss pads a shot I think you will certainly like then better then the rupes ones.

Again that's just me , and my opinion every one has there likings

If it were me i would get 2 8 oz bottles of FG400 and 3500 for about $30 with Menz on sale right now. If you've never tried them you might be wildly impressed. If not, you haven't shelled out too much. My only issue with the starter kit is i don't need any foam hand pads or towels. The starter kit is also for 32 oz. bottles of both Menz's. I might use anywhere from 2-4 ounces of each on the vehicle. If i don't like them after trying them i'd rather be stuck with 4-6 ounces rather than 28 ounces. I'm going to guess that after you try them you will want 28 ounces left but you can always make that decision later!

FG400 is a phenomenal product for me and can finish down after it's rather aggressive cut really well. Refine that black paint with 3500 and i am convinced you'll be amazed. The Vettes i have done have all been on the hard side for correction. FG400 has worked beautifully.

I'm still a little confused which menzerna product to get. If I could get this starter kit?

Or the fg400 and the sf3500 individual products.

Anyone want to chime in?

If you don't need any of the other items in the kit, go with the individual bottles.

You have definitely peaked my interest - I'll shoot you a PM with some questions.

BOSS creams are great, I've used them all.

On a side note, the Rupes yellow pad is their best. The blue, green and white are OK. UHS pad is good, too.

kit comes with 32 oz. Menzerna PO 91E Intensive Polish , 32 oz. Menzerna Final Finish 3000

is this diff than the 400 and 3500? I would assume so

Ha! I completely agree. I've been going more and more to the white pad when using the medium Quarz gel as opposed to the green pad with the Quarz gel.

The 400 has more compounding punch than the PO 83. What I like about the 400 is that I can use pretty much any pad and the 400 finishes great. You got me on the 3500 vs 106....

Interesting. FWIW, I'm not a big fan of Rupes polishes.

Just get Menzerna FG400 and whatever the new equivalent is to 4000.

^^ IIRC SF3500 is a slightly improved version of SF4000. I still use the 4000 as I have half a bottle left.

SF 3500. That's the polish from Menzerna. Just get those two and call it a day

^^ This FG400 and SF3500.

You'll be pleased. Now, the OP is a Vette owner, so don't skimp. Toss in a bottle of Blacklite and Collinite 845 and top it with two coats of blacklite and one of Collinite 845 once you're done and you'll be captivated whenever you walk out into your garage and not have to worry about it for months.

Brilliant Black is what Audi calls a pure Black.

If the Meguiar's Ultimate Liquid Wax is your LSP, just stick with their Ultimate Compound and Ultimate Polish. Can't really go wrong.

I agree with this. It's a great line and is very user friendly. Great place for someone new to start.

Interesting product

I'm looking for longevity on my lsp

Then Meguiar's Black Wax is not what you want.

Just curious: What year is the ZO6?

First things first...
IMO: To determine the tools, pads,
liquids, etc. to use for Paint Correction,
certain steps/processes should be taken.

So...
After washing the vehicle,
have you performed:
•Iron particles decontamination (ex: IronX)
•"The Baggie Test"
•Claying (per: "The Baggie Test" results)
•Diagnosed the "paint's condition",
via Swirl Finder-lighting

Good post.

Yes, Wolfgang polishes are overpriced in my opinion.

With your PC, you will get good results with Meguiar's Ultimate Compound on a Meguiar's Microfiber Cutting Pad followed by Meguiar's Ultimate Polish on a medium foam pad, like the Meguiar's Thin Pads. The lower profile of both of these pads will squeeze the most performance out of your PC.

Meguiars DA Microfiber Correction System, paint polishing system, car polish, car detailing system, compounding system, remove scratches

Meguiars 5 Inch DA Foam Discs 3 Pack

These combos are very forgiving for beginners, yield very good results, are available OTC and are reasonably priced.

.

Seeing as he is new I wouldn't jump on microfiber right away. I would stick with foam.

I would recommend the Meguiar's foam discs that you posted with a 5" backing plate. They are great pads and will take more advantage of the PC's power over a thicker pad. I would pick up more than three.

Wow!

is black light a sealant?

meh....they say it's a glaze with a sealant built in but I would question it's longevity. Even Chem. Guys top it off with their sealant.

Again, contrary to your 20/20 comment I know but it's worth it. Once corrected the sealants and what not go on in no time at all. I can coat my entire sedan in less than 10 minutes. I had to wait 15 for it dry which gave me time to grab a cold beverage but after that I can literally put a coat of Collinite on and buff it of in 15-20 minutes tops.

As a follow up, yes.

Ok, I've looked @ this a few times but now it makes sense.

Haha. Yeah, it's funny that a company has to have a chart on old and new product names and availability. Crazy.

What did you decide on using for the Vette?

Going to go with 8oz heavy cut 400 and sf 3500

For now meg ultimate as lsp.

Just need to figure out what color ccs pads I need. I think I need orange and white. Got to look into that yet.

Maybe grab a yellow just in case, or a microfiber. Your clear coat is typically very hard

Cool. Very good choices.

Pad wise consider this:

Vette Paint is very hard. I had one and remember it well. Pick up 5 Yellow pads. You might be able to get away with orange if you lean into it but you will probably need the cutting power. Can always return them if not used. White will work out very well for the final polishing.

2 yellow
2 orange
2 white

how does this sound to get me started? 5" back plate obviously
