It's loud, it doesn't spin until you set it to speed 5, and it stalls... So why didn't you take your Defective polisher directly back to the store and exchange it? Or do you actually think it's just the normal way it operates? Because I can tell you based on what you just said that you most certainly bought a defective 1. Don't throw your money away, go exchange it! It's a solid polisher.
 
....and don't tell me you took it back but didn't let them exchange it for you... [I say this in a friendly manner, with all due respect]
 
Wow that was a ton of work, but totally worth every minute & penny. The roadrash on the nose still needs to be repaired, but the rest of the car look spretty good.

steps taken were

using the porter cable polisher & chemical bros pads, microfiber applicator pads & towels (I didn't count the total number but I filled a 5 gal bucket with dirty towels)

Yellow heavy cut & leveling pad & griots complete compound
green heavy polishing pas & 3m perfect it 2 rubbing coumpound
white perfect surface polishing pad & poor boys ssr1 fine finish compound
blue glaze & light cleaner pad & Klasse all in one
Klasse high gloss sealant glaze - hand applied with microfiber pads (X2 coate)
black finishing pad & P21 carnuba wax

DONE, took pics & had a beer.
 
Congrats on getting the job done yourself. Doing that for the 1st time is a rewarding feeling, cheers! Great results!
