Help ME pick my next car

Maybe third option... Save $$ and buy house? You already have an excellent car. Just get a Trifecta tune.

That's what my mother/father suggest, lol. If I were to keep it and get a downpipe and a trifecta tune or the like I could run mid-low 12s easily. Do you by chance know if the trifecta tune let's me keep No Lift Shift(NLS)?

The newest S4 is a supercharged 6. The gen between 03 and the latest has the 4.2. Yeah maintenance isn't cheap.

I have a Sky Redline with the same LNF motor so I do have some knowledge... I would contact Trifecta for that answer about NLS.

The GMPP tune for our motor WOULD let you keep the NLS feature. However, Trifecta gives the same gains (if not a little more) for a cheaper price.

Think about this as well: Your car has a 100k/5yr warranty. Our 07 Red Line has the same warranty and we have had to use it 3 times already.

The water pump gasket failed
The fuel injectors failed
The thermostat failed

In other words, I'd suggest paying the extra coin on a GMPP tune versus a Trifecta tune and keeping the warranty. The LNF motor is easy to work on in some aspects, but I would keep the warranty because you can't beat free parts / fixes for when big stuff fails.

For the Redline / Solstice GXP cars (I used to have a Solstice GXP too lol) the GMPP tune adds some serious torque numbers to the car. Dynos show typically 250RWHP / 300RWTQ or somewhere close to those #s.

I have the GMPP Stage 1 tune. It's supposed to make 280ftlbs/320TQ from 2nd gear up. It will boost to 24 PSI at times. It does have some serious torque now and it's definitely nice not getting traction through 3rd gear :)

I was in the same boat with the same exact cars..and a used Lotus Elise.
I winded up picking up an 05 Honda S2000 with low miles for 18k and spending the extra money to make it fast. You got reliability as well.

Take the money you will spend on car payments and mod your Cobalt SS. I just looked at a 2006 SRT-10 Ram this weekend, 21,700 miles one owner, beautiful truck. What's not to love? 505hp Viper engine, 6-speed trans, low miles, etc. I was talking to my wife about it and said "If I were to apply the equivalent of 1 year of payments to my SRT-4 Neon, it would be awesome. Two year's worth of payments and it would be flat out sick." So we are trading her Cobalt for a Rogue (her pick) and I will find a beater for DD and start on my SRT.

What did you do to the S2k?

Good choice...I guess I will look into what can be done to the Cobalt a bit more before jumping into a new car..I don't like FWD that much but I'm sure with practice I will be able to launch.

:iagree:

One more vote for the house, sorry but no matter how cool my car was at 18 it was nice at 23 to say "my" house, especially in CA in the height of the market. just think, Your own garage and its also way cooler to tell a girl My House. I remember a salesman came to the door selling something and when I said no thanks he asked if my parents were home. lol, I told him no it was My house and my parents were old enough to be out on their own.

Sorry for being a mood killer but seven years later I have a bunch of toys and its still "my" house ..... at least 51% if you include the wife. :surrender:

just my 2 cents

I would like to change my vote please. I would like to vote for the house too. Great advice by So.Cal, especially now with the market being what it is. You should be able to get into something for a good price considering the market. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Get the Vette. Much more aftermarket bolt on parts to instantly push the already powerful engine to stellar proportions. Color red

Thanks For the help Sinbad!

Turbo... GT3582R
540 HP and it is fast as hell.
The stock motor on these cars are amazingly strong.

Hows the torque on that thing? I know that my TQ numbers in my cobalt are amazingly good and actually it has 40 more ftLBs than HP. My turbo spools up at about 2,000 RPM (given it is small) but it sure does kick ass not having to wait around for the power :hotrod2:

I had an 06 GTO, not a fan. I love the Vette and so does everyone else. The pait is not too hard to work with with the right tools and products, it is all available here. The 03/04 Cobra would be a very good choice too if your looking for HP. Not to hard to make those very fast. The Mitsu EVO is another car well worth loking at.

cars are endless to find. my vote would be for the house especially at this time! bought mine when i was 23 im 28 now and if you buy the house they have 1st time home buyer credit which is 8k! thats enough to put down on a newer car! If money is no object go for the nissan GTR 400+hp 400+tq oh and awd!

I thought the first time home credit was over with?

I heard ads everyday on the radio from finance companies that are advertising that the credit is still available. I bought my house 7 years ago with the wife but wish I was smarter and purchased one when I was younger. Just think of the equity I would have (dreaming). I was too busy buying toys to buy a house. It would have been nice to have my own place to wash/work/store my cars/bikes, etc., not to mention a bachelor pad, if you know what I mean. Something to be said for having privacy with the g/f.
