Hey everyone....well this is my practice car....poor thing has seen hell and back...over 181k miles...original paint job and almost 15 years of arizona sun and dust storms!

First off I'd like to get the hood into better shape...its been thru a lot and I'm not sure I can get it all the way back with my PC M105 and M205.

I've got a few pictures...these are AFTER I did a wash/claybar and M105 with an Orange 4" LC pad and then M205 (just to see how it worked...was my first time trying both).

Here she is...any advice would help...any other info needed I'd be glad to supply.

Here you can see all the RIDS and other lovely marks....

In this one you can see all the ugliness in its full glory...

This particular spot is quite the eye sore

I will say this....M105 and 205 combo took out pretty much all the swirls...but ALL these RIDS and marring just kinda laughed at me lol.

I dont know if i need to try a rotary and use this hood to practice on...do i need to wet sand the whole thing or what...but I'm very open to advice.

Thanks all

I'd say that for that, wet sanding might be the only option. Maybe 105 and a yellow pad...

How deep is that cluster of scratches? can you catch a finger nail in them? Some defects are just too deep to polish out. You could sand clean through the clear if they are real deep. One of my first details was a green Mustang that was a similar color, I thought for sure that the scratches were too deep but it turned out just fine. I did a first pass with yellow pads and a "rocks in a bottle" type of compound and then finished it with a medium polish on a polish pad. The work was done with a Cyclo polisher.

Here is a link to that Mustang Job. "This thread is not a reflection of the work I do today" Take a look at the roof on the mustang, they were very deep scratches from dragging a dirty laundry basket across the roof but they did come out.

Not only was I just learning paint correction I didn't know how to take decent photos either. It took me aproximately 8 hours to correct the paint on this car.

I'll check it out.

First no none of them actually catch my fingernail...there are just a TON of them all over but nothing that deep (thank goodness)

Second of all did you use a rotary or PC to get those out (maybe i should read the thread first before I ask that lol).

Third...can a wool pad be used with a PC or is that not a good idea?

8 hours huh...well at least now i know what i'm in for!

That's great! What' s leaking?

BTW, those scratches look way too deep...

Transmission pan...which they dropped to replace the filter and gasket. Before it just dripped...now it has a nice PUDDLE underneath...so BACK to the shop again Monday morning...hope they do it right this time.

As for the scratches...too deep for what...buffing out? Thats what I wanted to get the rotary for...see if i could get them out...maybe be able to practice wet sanding too.
I might give it another go with a Yellow pad or a Megs burgundy cutting pad and M105 and go super slow with my passes and see how much it helps...just waiting on my backing plate to fit the pads i got
