Help! What have I done?

Hi guys

Can anyone tell me what could have caused these rather large sized swirl marks?

My wash process is as follows:

1. Pressure wash rinse
2. Snow foam (dwell for 10 minutes)
3. Pressure wash rinse
4. 2BM with grit guards in each and microfiber wash mitt
5. Pressure wash rinse
6. Waffle weave towel dry

I occasionally use Optimum Instant Detailer as a drying aid but that's about it.

What have I done?

Do you think someone has rubbed against the car whilst it was dirty?

Argh, I'm ready to cry!

It could be soft paint?
And remember... ANY time you are touching the paint, you can be instilling swirls/marring.
 
Looks like straight line marring from either your wash mitt or drying towel - what vehicle is it and is the paint on the softer side?
 
Your towel/wash media might have had some junk on it. That is usually the culprit when you see straight line scratches such as that.
 
Isolated spot, I could see someone brushing up against it. If it's most of the car, then I would guess soft paint and/or trouble with your wash or drying media.

Are you applying a bunch of pressure when washing/drying? Personally, I'm not wild about the waffle weaves for drying paint. Even with a light touch I find I prefer the peace of mind of a higher pile microfiber.

Just curious - what kind of car is it?
 
My guess would also be potentially too much pressure when drying the car. You could try a softer longer-nap drying towel like the PFM and light pressure. Also be sure your wash media is always well lubricated with plenty of fresh soap (in other words, return to the buckets frequently if you aren't already).
 
It kinda looks like a wax or sealant residue that you didn't get all the way off. What's on it. Sometimes that happens to me and it looks like swirls but it's just product idk.

Edit, nevermind I didn't get a good enough look the first time.

I'm also curious why Mike says a spray wax will restore clarity? Do you mean temporarily by filling them In? I thought you would have to polish those out
