Help With Black Paint Final Polish

It would be more for curiosity for me to see how it looks after UC. It could be that the paint is on the hard side as well and UC is not potent enough.

Here's the best pic I could get after UC. I can say for sure that it does remove the spider webbing and scratches from the original finish. Using with a Meguiar's Microfiber cutting pad.

Soft black and red.

The other finishing pad I often use is a blue Buff and Shine. I did the same car the first time with the tangerine and blue using Menzerna PF2500 to remove the damage. My first test spot was M86 on a blue. It cleared the swirls, but marred the paint pretty good. The PF2500 and either pad was way better. The following year, I used M205 on the blue pad, and it came out great.

I usually keep Menzerna SF4000, or 3500 as it's now labeled - just in case there is a really finicky paint, like on my old red Monte Carlo.

I just ordered the 3500. If that or the Sonax Perfect finish with a Rupes yellow pad doesn't work I'll try the blue Buff and Shine with PF2500.

Are you describing holograms? If so..maybe use flex which will compound them out and restart the process.

Did this issue not appear during your test spot?

I'm sure it's non metallic paint. It's Dodge/Chrysler PX8 - solid black.

Sure have, among numerous other videos he's done. Although I'm not using the same products and pads he's using. I'm fairly confident with my set-up and technique, it's the combination of products, pads, hard/soft paint, etc that gets a little overwhelming. Like he says in the video - polishing is an art form.

I just put an order in for Sonax Perfect Finish and a Rupes yellow pad.

This combo should finish well on soft paint. Why? The Rupes yellow pad is one of the FEW pads that actually finishes well on soft black paint.
Sonax perfect finish has durable fillers, but on soft paint that's a PITA to finish, that's a good thing. Rupes Diamond ultra fine and a Rupes yellow pad(NOT white) finishes very well on soft black paint. I wonder if Rupes Diamond has durable fillers as well. It leaves a "film" on the pads that's hard as heck to wash out.

MAKE SURE you're using high quality MF towels, or you will micro marr the paint when wiping off.

Unless you're highly skilled, I'd stay away from any MEG's products that use SMAT abrasives when finishing soft paint.

I had similar problems with a 2009 Challenger SRT on did on Saturday. I used Griot's Correcting Cream using a 3401 with a 5" LC Hybrid pads. It finished down great and it looked great from all angles. I ran out of time to apply an LSP so my buddy took it home and I went to his house on Monday to apply the wax (DP Max Wax). As he pulled the car out of the garage, I could see small holograms all down the sides of the car. I was so pissed! I didn't have my gear with me and all my buddy had was 205 and his DA with white LC pads. I was able to get them out (or so I thought). We finished it up and I applied the Max Wax. He came by later that day as the sun was setting and it looked pretty good but I can see room for improvement. I'm going to work on it again this weekend.

You have CORRECT lighting at the right angle to show true micro marring. If you see pictures with a lighting source from 5 feet away, or not at a correct angle, take it with a grain of salt. Not trying to be offensive to anyone, but people post pictures that are easily misleading. Soft paint is very difficult to finish without micro-marring. I have only found a select few pads and polishes that finish very close to or micro-marring free. I'm NOT speaking for others, just myself.

I just did a non-metallic black hellcat a few weeks ago that I fought the entire time. The paint was super soft. What seemed to work really well for me was a white LC thin pro pad and M205. The machine of choice was a G21 with a single washer mod at speed 5. I made 3 to 4 passes using medium to light pressure. I tried SF3500 at first but the 205 returned the same results (SF3500 gave it that extra 2% maybe) in a fraction of the time.

Looks sweet. Love this car in black! Worth the extra effort. I was having the same problem. Looked perfect until I held the light at that one particular angle that showed the micro marring. I should get my new products today hopefully.

I cannot comment on Ultimate Polish since I have yet to try it out but a quick google search yielded this "Ultimate Polish is derived from M205. Same abrasives. The main difference between the two is that M205 offers more cut while Ult. Polish offers more polishing oils." I believe that is from a member here but I can not say for sure.

That's a-lotta paint to cover indeed! I wonder if the same micro marring results would appear on a metallic. I'd imagine the clear coat is the same being a Dodge, but perhaps the metallic paint would make a difference.
