Help With Black Paint Final Polish

I can literally one step my car with 4 Rupes yellow pads and Keramik. I don't even need to bother with a finishing step it's such a good combo.

I cannot comment on Ultimate Polish since I have yet to try it out but a quick google search yielded this "Ultimate Polish is derived from M205. Same abrasives. The main difference between the two is that M205 offers more cut while Ult. Polish offers more polishing oils." I believe that is from a member here but I can not say for sure.

I would also look at this article that Mike shared with me a few weeks back. Here is the link: https://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/auto-detailing-101/109965-pitch-black-hellcat-advice.html

Ah! I missed that post.

I've tried to wipe down with an ipa solution and Gyeon Prep (which I don't like at all).

Dying to try this out, but my package didn't arrive today :(

IPA is very grabby, don't use that. Never tried Gyeon Prep. I use Gtechniq Panel Wipe which is super slick AND strong enough to remove polishing oils. It's very important not to skip this step, as the oils can fill micro-marring(haze) and after your first wash, it may look like "hologram" city!

Cleans up the paint very well, and finishes like a dream. Also works great with their microfiber pads.

Well, this project is on hold for a while. Something flew off a truck and dented/chipped up my right fender and hood this afternoon. :(

Oh man that sucks!
I was so looking forward to your results!
Maybe just do the trunk just to see if your combo does the trick?
Again...Sorry about the damage!

Thanks. I'm in the acceptance stage now. I'll get back to it after it's repaired. Who knows what will happen at the body shop.

UPDATE: The car is going to the body shop on Tuesday, but I've been testing some final polish combinations.

The best result so far is using Menzerna 3500, 3 small drops (no priming), a tangerine hydro-tech pad, speed 4.5, moderate pressure for about 4 passes and then light pressure for a final two passes. No micro-marring and a nearly perfect finish.

The yellow Rupes pad is leaving slight micro-marring using the Menzerna and Sonax PF at various pressures and speeds. Also getting micro-marring with Sonax PF and both pads. The yellow Rupes does take down the DA haze much quicker than the tangerine hydro-tech, so in some spots the yellow Rupes for a few passes and a couple passes with the hyrdo-tech works nicely where DA haze is heavy.

All this, of course, could come down to my technique.

I'll post more when I actually do the whole vehicle final polish.

I would advise you to tell the bodyshop not to buff out the entire car, tell them just work the area where the damage is. :dblthumb2:

Yup. I'm making a sign for the dash too, but you know how that goes. Hopefully they listen.

My wife had her bumper redone a few years ago, they gave it the courtesy rotary swirl job over the entire car.

When you say Sonax PF, are you referring to Sonax 04-06?

Yes, label says Perfect Finish 4/6
That's more designed for rotary polishers.

Anyhow, the tangerine hydro pad is one of the best you'll find for finishing black soft. BnS white pad is pretty good as well.

Have to wrap up this thread for now. Car is back from the body shop and the color match is atrocious. Looks more brown than black where they sprayed when compared to the factory finish. The paint job itself is bad so I actually don't want them re-doing it. Thinking I'll take it to Dodge and maybe they can get it right.

Then there's the issue of waiting so long for new clear coat to cure before applying a coating so I probably won't get back to polishing for another month and a half.

Anyone researching recent Chrysler/Dodge black paint polishing. The paint is soft and will micro-mar easily. After compounding, I had the best luck with Menzerna 3500, a hydro-tech tangerine pad, 3 pea size dots, medium speed setting with medium pressure, and a couple final light passes. That's based on two test spots I did.

Thanks to all for your input and advice. It was invaluable in getting to the right result.

I took the car to Dodge to have the quarter panel re-sprayed. Still not a perfect match, but at least it's black, not brown. Can only tell the difference when shining a bright light on it in a dark garage. Nothing I tried, however, would finish off the re-spray without micro-marring. I waited 30 days after the spray. The rest of the car was fine using the combo above. I gave up on doing the Gyeon Mohs coating and just went with Griot's Perfecting Cream & Finishing Sealant with their yellow pad. I need to re-do it, but it was very easy and I was happy with the results.
