So my moms car has been in the body shop twice these past two months. First time she had a car back into the panel pictured bending it slightly. The body shop fixed it.

Then she backed into a trailer hitch she couldnt see and tore a hole in the bumper. They replaced the bumper.

Anyways, so its had some work on this side and the bumper. Today I just noticed this panel is foggy/hazy. They never mentioned painting it. All they did was fixed the dent and replace/spray the bumper.

Do you think they buffed it but didnt quite finish it out?

Wondering if I can fix this with UC and orange pads with my GG or if I should call the body shop and complain.

Here is what it looked like prior to being fixed at the bodyshop for the dent.

Try to fix it. I would still complain if I fixed it or not.

How long ago was the repair done? Check with the repair shop to see if it was painted! If it was painted, they probably did a quick buff with some sub-standard polish and wool pad just to get it out the door. Also, if it was painted, you should wait a few weeks after the repair before you do a quality buff/seal/wax to give it time to gas-out.
If no painting was done, just go for it.

looks like it wasnt properly preped or wetstanded. ive seen that many times on cars that got body work done. Thats a piss poor job. There is nothing you can do to fix it. It needs to be redone

If the body panel has a good layer of paint and it has had plenty of time to gas-out after the repair, it can usually be corrected. I have corrected many sub-standard paint jobs using proper products and techniques. It's a matter of taking your time and taking baby steps along the way.

It was in for the dent like 1-2 months ago.

The bumper replacement was about 3 weeks ago.

I tried to show my mom but she couldnt "see" the difference. Its like trying to show someone swirls when they have no idea what they are.

She didn't seem bothered at all even when I told her what it was and I know she wont take it back anyways.

So Ill try polishing it tomorrow and if it fixes it great, if not ohh well.

Looks like a crappy paint job to me. It just may have never been wet sanded...or it was just sprayed poorly. Either way...it doesn't look good. Take it back instead of working on it. They might fix it up.

from the look of the pics, that is HEAVY orange peel in the clearcoat.

If thats the case (which i'm 99.9% sure), NO, the UC and DA wont fix it.

even though that panel was not fixed, bodyshops will blend there paint into other panels. The crappier there color match, the more they will blend. In most cases, I have seen them paint the entire side of a car for a tiny fix on the rear quarter panel.

I would love to say that is crappy body work, but unfortunately that is now industry standard as to whats pumped out of 99% of bodyshops. Most people wouldnt know the different between Orange peel in paint and a tomato.

Your a geek member so i'm sure this stuck out like a sore thumb. This happened to me lastyear when I had a panel fixed on my GTI. I picked the car up on a rainyday. Next day inspected, and dropped the car right back off at the bodyshop and told them to wetsand and polish it out to blend the orange peel in with the OEM peel look. Turns out they made the paint flat like a showcar and now the rest of slight orange peel in the OEM paint now stood out. LOL I coudnt win. I wound up selling the car a few months later anyway. live and learn.

anyway, I would bring the car back to the bodyshop and not even call. Just show up and ask for the manager. If you call on the phone you will likely get the secretary who will give you the runaround and tell you its normal.

Just show up and tell them that the work wasn't finished that was paid for. Its unacceptable to accept the car in this condition. If they wind up not wanting to do the work for free, tell them you will air them out online and show them this thread for starters.

just to note : its very likely that they will fix it, as most shops understand its part of the job. They are just so used to dealing with customers who dont know anybetter that it has become common practice to skip the finishing steps unless someone notices. time is money, and people are stupid nowadays.

Piss poor work if you ask me! I would take it back and ask them to match the adjacent the rest of the car.

Do yourself a favor. Make the opposite side look like a mirror and tell them this is what it used to look like. Also, do the same to the rear door next to it so it really stands out.

I agree fully! Make them panels look as close to show car quality as possible! Mask that 1/4 off and don't touch it then they will see the difference! Nice lil trick there Bobby!

:iagree:

And take pictures. Depending on the shop's attitude you may need to apply some pressure to get them to fix it properly. (BBB,legal, etc)
