Help with wheels...

I was wondering if there is a cleaner that is stronger than P21s Gel and will not damaged my painted wheels? I have a smart car with silver painted wheels and they need good cleaning to remove brake dust. I have used P21s gel and scrubbed them with a EZ brush. Suggestions?

Have you tried claying the wheels? You can also try poorboys spray and rinse which is a strong dedicated wheel cleaner. There is degreasers like amazing roll off, and APC's such as optimum power clean.

Meguiar's APC (the green stuff) seems to do a good job at cleaning brake dust off wheels that have a solid build up.

As they're painted, you'll find that even most harsh wheel cleaners are quite safe on the wheel finish, although that can't be guaranteed for the parts behind it like the brake calipers and such- it may stain them.

If claying doesn't touch that residue, then maybe you'd want to try a bug and tar remover first before moving to a harsher wheel cleaning chemical. Also, do you have any stiffer/ denser wheel cleaning brushes other than the EZ Detail brush?

Meguiar's Wheel Brightener is extremely strong, and I believe the Poorboys one is too (although never used it).
 
Thank you guys. I didn't think of claying the wheels, that worked like a charm. It took me all day but the result are worth it.:xyxthumbs:

looks great,be sure to seal the wheels with some dp wheel glaze(works/looks great on my cc wheels) or something
 
If you're going to seal the wheels, make sure you only wash them with soap and water. Wheel cleaners will strip off the sealant. My car is a daily driver, so I clean my wheels with wheel cleaner every week. I use a spray wax(aquawax) as an LSP to offer some protection and shine. I repeat this process every week.
 
I just applied Poorboy's wheel sealant. I will keep that in mind only soap and water. I try some spray wax but I will have order it.

If you're using a wheel sealant, you dont really need a spray wax. Clean with car wash soap and water, dry, then mist with a quick detailer and buff to remove any water spots. :xyxthumbs:

Very nice, but you might want to drive the car after cleaning to prevent the red rust from the rotors from getting back on your clean wheels. I use a leaf blower after cleaning.

Griots is similar to P21S in safety ... you can use Poorboys Spray/Rinse on painted wheels and much stronger, but heed the directions exactly for best results and use only as needed.
