Hi Tech Magna Sponge instead of clay?

I have used Elastrofoam for a couple of clayings. I really like it. You simply was the contaminates off in a bucket of car wash.

I wonder if AG will start selling it too since they already carry ulitma. :)

I've been getting a few emails on a review I did on the product previously, and let me clear something up. If you have never used a clay bar before, I would recommend buying a kit and using it before you jump onto the Hi-Tech Sponge, or any aggressive clay for that matter. I say this because from my experience with the Hi-Tech Sponge is that it is more of a substitute for aggressive clay rather then a mild, meaning it is very easy to mar the surface, while a mild clay is much more forgiving, which is a better idea for the hands of the in-experienced. Again as said before, start with the least aggressive method and work your way up. Now once you learn the basics on claying, I would say have at it! It really is an amazing product and I plan on ordering it again. I haven't had a chance to detail my car now in some time due to various reasons, but again try it for yourself, and make your own opinion! With that said, I did have a great experience with it, and you can read my review if you want my insight (please note, even in the review I started with the more mild clay!):

Thanks for the review, it is still locked so i couldn't post there. I hope AG considers this too, clay is too expensive imo. :)

Wow!! your review has put Magna sponge in my 'must have items' list!!

This is definitely coming in with my next order! :D
Thanks

I have the Elastifoam version. I like it because I can use whatever I have on hand as a lubricant for it. What I generally like to do it start at one wet panel, rinse and go to the next panel and repeat. It is very simple and also works well on windows. The key it make sure the temperature of the surface is relatively cool (as the rubber will stick on hotter surfaces). Definitely a must buy in my book

I was wondering if anyone has tried one of these.Hi Tech Magna Sponge

Its cheaper than clay, says its reuseable as well...just dont know how well it woudl work and if it would be more harsh on your paint (risk of swirls/scratches).

I uswed the Elastrofoam from Ultima and do not like it as much as clay. I had more marring with it than the clay. MPO

Is this similar in construction to Ultima Elastrofoam. Namely a sponge block with a thin sheet of rubber on one side?

When i used Elastrofoam I did not have the feeling that it was aggressive but I kept the sponge and paint well lubricated. AG has BOGO on Elastrofoam except it is on backorder. 2 sponges and two bottles of lub for $27 is a great deal.

I totally agree, $20+ for a bar of clay is pretty rediculous especially considering you can only use it for a few cars (unless they're really bad cars, then you get 1 or 2 uses and thats it).

Being able to rinse out the sponge and reuse it is what really caught my attention

I bought 4 of them at the beginning of the summer. I used one of a black escalade and it marred the entire paint badly. I haven't tried them since.
If anyones interested i sell them for cheap...

Sounds like you didn't use enough lubricant. I've never had mine mar paint.

That's what detailing clay did to my black Camaro.

I should try this.......I can't clay my Camaro without putting scratches in it.......and it's not because I'm doing something wrong either. I've used a brand new Pinnacle clay bar with plenty of lube (probably too much) and just enough pressure to keep the clay on the paint. When I try this I'll write a review.
I have used these. IME they are much more aggresive than the Pinnacle. My vehicles have very hard clear so I dont have issues with these. IMO they wiill remove crud on flat surfaces but dont work as well other places. I got 2 on BOGO when AG was clearing them out and threw away my CG version as it was wearing out after numerous uses.
