There better be some fat 305mm+ rear tires on these cars. 600+ hp is pretty useless on a rwd car unless the torque is balanced.
But you should try 600+ HP in a FWD car!

Makes a RWD a walk in the park.

Just messing with ya'.....)
Its not the size of the tire, its what the tire is made of. TC isn't the ticket here, its not made for when you add power to your car, its for when the weather goes south.
The horsepower wars of today eclipse "the good old days", todays cars are so much more rounded and yeah the old cars sounded great but it doesn't take much to get any car to sound good, even todays modern muscle cars sound good stock, not all of them but have you heard the newer 5.0 Mustangs!!!

I'll agree that the size AND the compound make it work.
But TC isn't just for bad weather. On some vehicles is downright diabolical! Now my lil' Red G isn't but 300HP but I was warned before buying it not to get crazy when the tires wear out at 15K and try to put some 40,000 mile tires on it. The service manager told me he had at least 1 car a week come in saying something was wrong with their car, it wouldn't run right, the engine keeps cutting out, blah blah blah.
He'd go look at the car and it'd have brand new tires on it. He asked them about replacing the tires and they said the needed something that lasted longer. Then he would replace them with RE050's, (per manufacturer spec) have them drive the car again, and
presto everything worked fine!
I replaced my rears with another set of RE050's at 15K, then all four at 28K. I went with Michelin Pilot Sports and I freaking HATE THEM!
I drive mine with VDC off all the time, BECAUSE it's so freaking aggressive.
Yet my new tires break loose much worse than the OEM ones did. Great for laying drags, not so great for traction when you want it! :dunno:
Thing is... They are just
barely harder than the Bridgestone's but the sidewalls are much MUCH softer. They ride a lot better, they are a lot smoother, and noticeably quieter (especially on the expressway). My wife L-O-V-E-S them!!!!!
But the sidewall flex, (especially in the twisties) drives me freaking nuts! You can be on a long sweeper, (that has them flexed all the way to one side) hit an expansion bump and feel the tires chirp back to center then flex back to the side again.
Couldn't agree more about todays pony cars versus the ones of yesteryear. Those cars drove like tanks! They were rattle traps, rusted, handled like crap, didn't stop for $hit, but made a lot of smoke when you pushed the "go pedal". Why? Because of bias ply tires! I had a bunch of them, but the worst one (as far as trying to control it's power to the ground) was a 425HP Javelin with 70 series tires on it! Stupidest thing you've ever seen on a car. You could be going 45, slap it in second, (automatic with a slap stick and a Dana 60 positrack in the rear) and it'd light the rear end up for as long as you kept your foot in it. You could FORGET about a standing start! Oh noooooooo...... that puppy would just sit there and smoke, like you could get out and walk around it while the tires just melted down, get back in, fasten your belts, adjust your mirrors, hit second gear, plug in the 8-track, fast forward, wait for it to keep smoking the tires, and eventually you'd gone about 60'.
Old MOPAR's, had them too. Buddies in high school had them, my girlfriend (now wife) raced them. Rattle traps! Classic 67 GTO you say? She drove one! We couldn't wait to get rid of it for a Camaro for her Senior graduation gift!

Fords? I had TWO! One a 2 bolt main 302, the other a 4 bolt main that'd run low 12's on street tires all day. Racing slicks and light weight skinny front tires on it and it'd pull the front wheels off the ground. All of 5.5mpg and a rock crusher 4 speed with a 4.10 gear all day and all night.
I'll take my little red G with a V6 and run those old cars through the turns any day of the week. (BTW mine has 4WS and the sport handling package so it does tend to like turning.)
Doesn't mean massive muscle isn't good for 1/8th mile though.

Watch those idiots on the street racing show? While most of the racing is a farce, one can't argue the cars are F_A_S_T!!!!!! Loved the little bug that AZN has now that smoked the Lambo and the GTR with. But remember, it was only an 1/8th mile though. Left up to me and I'd throw all those clowns UNDER the jail. Besides, who needs 2000 horsepower for a "street" wink-wink car?
