how long do you keep your vehicles?

If its breaking down on me, 3 years. If its holding together well 8-10 years. I'm closing in on 4 years on my current DD, and I see it going another 2, mainly because I dont need a SUV any longer because I dont tow motorcycles. At 26-28mpg, Im not really getting any benefit of the SUV ability. Im looking at getting that next Ford Fusion Hybrid which gets mid 40s.

Anyone else on here still have a vehicle that they bought new 35 years ago?

YES...3 of 'em...(I must update the 41 years to 42 years for one of 'em)

-Between no longer being baby-ish...To being responsible in having/raising babies: 2-3 years.

-Afterwards, and 'til present date: 14-41 years.

Oh! the impetuousness of the chronologically young!

I've had my 99 f150 since march of 09, it now has 235k on it and still running fantastic! Built Ford Tough!

I still have my 2007 BMW Alpina B7, a 2007 Gallardo "Nera" edition (death trap) and a 2010 BWM X5...

Since I don't lease or finance my vehicles, I don't see the point in replacing them every so often if they run 100% fine.
If you lease you car, I do get the point of trading it in for a newer ride, but you will never "own" anything...

Still driving my 2005 Trailblazer, 60,000 miles, and a 1991 Astro, 122,000 miles, and most important........NO CAR PAYMENT!! :dblthumb2:

Had my 98 Honda Accord for about 12 years 145,000. Change oil often. Castrol Synthetic Blend

I'm 23 and have only had 2 cars in my life.

2006 VW GLI fully loaded - 3 year lease on this car
2005 Honda S2000 - 3 years exactly 4 days from today (May 27th)

I have yet to sell a car with less than 200,000 miles on it. (Record up over 500,000 miles). I keep 'em for a long time but I also drive 'em alot.

I have had many cars and average about one car or motorcycle per year usually. I get bored with stuff pretty quick. I think the longest I had a car was 3 years.

My oldest right now is my 1991 Toyota MR2. 22 years old and going strong. I just sold my 2004 Lexus RX330 and bought a 2014 RX350 which I will keep for another ten years minimum.

For me it depends on the car, but I'm averaging around eight years right now. The logest was my wife's Jeep Cherokee we had for 13 years. Several cars we own/have owned were used when we bought them, so after 8 years in our garage they were 10+ years old by the time we traded them in.

Bringing a thread back fro mthe dead eh?

I have gone through 5 cars in the last 7 years, two of them were bought new, the others used (30-50k on odo).

I get bored of cars..QUICK!

I have owned cars for 2, 6, 2, 3, 3, 4 years and my current is 7 months.
That said, I bought this latest car cash and don't have a payment. I think the psychology will come into play, ie "I don't have a car payment, if I want to buy a new car it will cost me money"...whereas when you have an existing payment it just seems so easy to roll over the payment into a new one...
We'll see!

There are some deals to be had gently used! If I buy new I intend to hang on to it just because of the depreciation. But a lot of banks have lease-return lots, where they will even have cars back from a 1-year lease. Get a 1 year old car with less than 12,000 miles on it for thousands less than new. It's barely broken in!

since 2006:
18 months
34 months
24 months
10 months
10 and counting

Currently...
My Truck - 10yrs on Dec.16 (this is the longest I've kept one)
My Mustang - 2yrs, 3 Mo
My Wifes VW - 5yrs (she keeps them 10-15yrs).

Ive had multiple cars I bought for <$1000 and also used to finance a new car every 2 years...DUMB DUMB DUMB cause I didn't have the income to take that kind of loss on new cars every 2 years!

Now I buy cars ONLY in cash and only at a BIG BIG BARGIAN, keep them till they are no longer worth keeping. Have had my 02 Bonneville for 2yrs, and my 89 Formula for over 8 years now. I will probably keep the Formula for ever and like I said the Bonne will go when the repairs outweigh the value.
