How to convince a wife who has NO concept of the addiction that I need more stuff?

Thats my routine. I haven't had anything delivered to the house in a long time. They can't complain about what they don't know.

If you have enough crap and have it spread out all over she will never notice a couple new bottles of something around.

Separate accounts eliminate much of the arguments over finances. Once you have a few polishers and a bunch of detailing supplies, it leaves the realm of quantity and enters the description of "all that car stuff". Now numbers no longer matter and you can stack another shelf full every week and add another power tool or two every month.

you best hope non of your wives/girlfriends find about about this thread or it's a rap for you...

I actually had a girlfriend once tell me "You love your car more than me!!"

Duh!!!!!

Needless to say, that relationship did not last much longer. Come to think of it, that might explain why I am still single after all these years.

This is a great point
My wife and I have always had separate accounts, and each responsible for a portion of the bills based on our earnings
We both save for retirement and spend as we see fit on our hobbys

My wife said the same thing the first time I brought a gun home. 13 guns later they just get used to it. You have to spend money to make money in this business.

My last purchase was an SP101. The gf has S&W 3913 of her own.

This is what we do as well. If I understand right, her folks run under the same concept but all in one shared account.

Sometimes people look at me like I've got two heads when I mention we each have our own checking account after this long (married 5 years, together longer). Works for us!

LOL you guys...

Seriously. If I gave my husband crap for buying ANYTHING, he'd tell me to F off. There is no "asking" if either of us can or should buy anything. We just do... and it works great for us :dblthumb2:

BUT! If you really need an excuse... tell her the other stuff expired LOL

That's worth thinking about ... hmm

McKee's 37 gave me a 20% off coupon for joining their newsletter, brought it down A LOT ... AND it lets me get a free (~$35 regular cost) sampler pack. The stress only gets worse.

It's my own fault really. We've been together 26 years and I've never WANTED to deal with the bills, too depressing, so she has been doing them ... this is what I get for being a coward

Something to consider before making it official it looks like...

My situation is unique in that even if we get married, I will be keeping my house, and she her condo. All my supplies are shipped to my home, and our back accounts are separate.

We discussed this, and agreed to keep things this way should we decide to tie the knot.

I do sell off product that I'm not in love with, which seems like a reasonable compromise if there were ever complaints.

Separate bank account.

I make side money doing auto repair. That's my money. I worked for it. I sweated for for it, and on occasion, i bleed for it.

It will not go towards a purse, earrings, jewelery, or high heels.

It will go towards stupid s**t that I want, whether I need it or not.

She will not see how much i paid for it, and she never will.

You made her get used to that...

That is the way my detailing money is. It goes to a separate bank account, even a separate bank. It has a debit card, and if I have the money in the account and want it I get it. If it is a tool or supplies and need it and don't have the money...that will teach me to budget better as I struggle to get by without it.

How many shoes does she have? If'n it's more than 3 pair, turnabout is fair play. Nobody needs more than 3 pairs of shoes...anything over that number is excessive. Every time my wife says she is going shopping because she "...NEEDS new clothes" I remind her to rephrase as "I WANT new clothes..." because I've never seen her leave the house in nothing but a barrel.

Do NOT mention shoes - lol. Might as well dig a six foot hole for yourself first. Challenging her shoes is like challenging her need to eat and have a roof over head - haha.

I posted this somewhere on here last summer:

Just helped my wife remove her hard top & doors off of her Jeep Wrangler. As much as she loves that Jeep, and was admiring it all stripped down, she actually said to this to me: "Well, I guess washing it is out of the question now, huh?"

(Cue triumphant music)........ No, not by a longshot, babe. Went to the shed, grabbed my bucket & grit guard, then went inside to my detail bag & grabbed ONR, a bunch of MF's, two Cobra Guzzlers, And an old mitt for the wheels.

Diluted the ONR, explained the process to her as I demonstrated it on the hood, and let her go to town.

After she was done, she said: "Wow. I didn't even know there was a product like that!"

To which I replied, Neither did I until I started reading & trying new things from AutoGeek. ;)
