How to prep your car for winter

I have been told by several old school farmers to spray my work trucks underbody with a mixture of used motor oil and diesel. Definitely know this is not recommended because of environmental reasons, but they swear by it.

Is there anything that should or could be done to the undercarriage, mainly for us in snow/salt zones?

I try to rinse off the undercarriage as often as possible. I either go through my favorite touchless car wash which has a great undercarriage cycle, or I'll go to the local coin-op and blast it out with the wand.

Thanks Nate, but I know how I typically fall off the detailing wagon this time of year. Searched around some and found very little info on this particular subject here. Thought detailing was all about the "details" here. Ha, just kidding. No one offers any sort of undercarriage cleaning/protection here? Could be a good add on but guess you would need a lift or something to do it, or some ramps and laying on your back in puddles with everything dripping down on you. Probably not feasible for mobil detailing. I guess there's the rubberized sprays but I think they could cause as much harm as good. Possibly trapping moisture on a already compromised undercoating. Also, just a thought but I would also be wary of scrubbing wheels to an extreme. You could be removing undercoating or protection. Also I am sure most of you have seen Hondas or Subarus(like mine) that have bubbled rust from the rear quarter where it connects to the bumper at the wheel well. I know this could be prevented some through frequent washes, but I assume this still could happen through vibration and part expansion and contraction. Eventually this area will become compromised and lead to rust and bubbling. Would be nice to find a "oily" product for this purpose. Something that could seep into the cracks and displace and prevent moisture.

Ment scrubbing wheel "wells". Not saying any one here is doing this but I believe I have done this

For undercarriage protection,FluidFilm is by far the best iv seen. Every fall after i give my truck its final waxing, i get my truck sprayed. Whole undercarraige, enginebay door jams, inside doors, tailgate, wheel wheels and all the lowers. Its nice because it creeps into all the crevices. Once its sprayed i dont wash it at all until march. Spingtime wash with simple geen and it comes right off

Nice, thanks for the info. Looks pretty good, and enviro friendly.

Can even get it locally. I assume you used the aerosol version.

Will one can do your truck?

Edit: Sorry, your post reads "I get my truck sprayed".
