Well a dirty bird got me, dark purple in color.
The bird crap was on less that 10 minutes before I wiped it off with Wolfgang Si02 waterless wash solution.
I have tried some Blackfire AIO with no success in removing the purple stain.
Any suggestions appreciated. The PPF is 3M is about 14 years old & well taken care of.
Thanks

sometimes the sun can 'bleach' stains out, but ive had experience where the PPF had to be replaced...

I just tried a alcohol prep pad 70%, it removed the stain!

These acronyms are challenging. What is PPF? I guess it's too much trouble to spell the words out

PPF = Paint Protection Film. It's a clear plastic-y film that's applied to the exterior of a vehicle to protect the paint.

If you google PPF the first entry is Xpel Paint Protection Film.

And yes it's too much trouble to spell the words out :p

OP. How well do you keep it sealed....PPF is extremely porous. especially that old 3M stuff.
If you have ever removed one, you would -clearly- see it is not optically clear in color...

Be mindful if you ever remove it cause afaik, there is a 10 year threshold on new films from what I read. Dunno about the old stuff.
From what I understand, after X time, to creates a -superbond- to the paint.

I used Wolfgang SiO2 sealant a couple of weeks ago on the entire car. Didn't seem to help much in this case on the PPF.
Always cautious about any "Petroleum Distillates" on PPF as may have adverse reaction on PPF.
The 70% Isopropyl alcohol removed the stain with very little effort. I'm sure the stain was on top of the sealant which aided in the stain removal.
Have reapplied the SiO2 sealant on the affected area.

:props:

The key to any PPF, new or old....is you gotta keep ontop of the LSP IME.
That saran wrap is very porous......

I can a potential issue if the PPF is porous that something can get under it and damage the paint.

I never looked or considered that....

Kinda..sorta...you know how there is those wild Blue, Purple, Red Dyed Heavy Foam Shampoos for -glitz and whatever-
I've seen posts where the Dye has stained the film - and this is -recent current PPF film brands-
YMMV....but IME when I have removed film and see how it -looks-, my POV is that it's just porous....you obviously wouldn't know unless one took it off the panel to see how optically clear or not it was...

Premium Shield Elite is perfectly clear. Been using it for several years. Been using PS as a brand for over 10. Lifetime warranty and again, one of the very best out there. Self healing and in many cases glossier than the finish it's installed on.

I did the front of my wife's last car, full hood and bikini on fenders here.

I do headlights after correcting them too. Again, 100% perfectly clear. A lot of that clarity will come from using a correct and proper activating solution mix too. Black pillars I tend to do in STEK Gloss Black. Have yet to do the roof of my car or my wife's car though. Soon!

Not referring to the clarity of the film. Granted the thicker ones do tend to have a bit more OP to it...

I was referring to *old* film that when you remove it and look at the film , holding the -aged film- that has seen road film, rain driven water, etc through the years, if one is not ontop of the LSP .....film soaks the crud in. Even on -new current film-, I've read where the funky Instagram/TikTok worthy super colored snow foams have stained film and require R&R. In the OP, who has 3M film...I have removed film off previous cars and when you look- hold it ....you can see it's not optically as clear as when new and or in some cases, quite -tinge of yellow- due to just the film being aged as well.

In the realm of film being discussed, most consumers think it's like ceramic coating ....an invisible shield. Granted film protects from nicks vs coatings.
Just putting it out there that IME, this stuff is quote porous based on what I have seen on film removed off car. Gotta keep on your LSP

Re:LSP, IME, nothing really last as long on it as well as much so the frequency of ...is more like 3X more often than one would do if it was on paint
