How to Restore Your Nasties Dirtiest Brush

I came up with a way to clean the worse tar type dirt & crud off wheel brushes or fender brushes. It works pretty well. You will need a few things

1. A dirty brush
2. Goo Gone
3. A Grit Guard
4. Running Water
5. APC

I got a new Chemical Guys fender brush. I like this brush because of the extreme angle on the head. However, any time you scrub wheel wells, your brush will get dirty with grime. If I was a pro, I wouldn't worry about such non sense. But being a hobbyist, I like to keep my stuff clean. I am kind of obsessed with keeping brushes, applicators, pads, etc... clean as new.

The brush (it was already cleaned with Grime Reaper - you can see its still pretty dirty):

First spray the brush face with Goo Gone:

Then, let the brush sit 5 minutes. Then, scrub the brush vigorously a few minutes on the Grit Guard.

Then, rinse the brush. You will need to repeat the above steps using your APC to get the Goo Gone out of the brush.:

The finished product:

Try it to restore your brushes, it works!

I'm going to try this. One of my brushes looks nasty, I don't remember what kind of crud is on it.

I assume you clean the grit guard with APC or alcohol after, and rinse to prevent contamination of wash or rinse water?

Your idea is great and made my mind wander.......
I have this,

along with a dedicated bucket filled with the correct ratio of H2O and APC might work.
Similar to a grit guard except hangs off the edge into the solution.

I use the Goo Gone in the spray bottle (regular or automotive formula). I use this one because I find you tend to use less product than the pour out bottle. I think Goo Gone is a pretty amazing product. It can clean stains no other product will remove. The one caveat with it is, its not very water soluble. So,
You will need to clean off the Goo Gone once the stain is gone with APC.
