Hurricane Irene Coming for us in the North East

I've got wind and heavy rain right now and the hurricane is still south of me so there much more to come.....

Hang tough Bobby. It passed us and we just have heavy wind and some rain....

I heard a lot of rain overnight, but not really that much wind. Looking out the windows all around I see only leaves and a few small branches down. Power was on all night. NWS this morning says winds only 40-50 with gusts to 70 today--maybe we are going to luck out.

On the other hand, it's been raining hard all night, and even though it looks pretty calm out now, we're approaching the point where the eye was supposed to pass over us, so this may be "the calm before the storm". Also my local newspaper website is reporting a lot of flooding in the lower parts of my town.

EDIT: I've got some water seepage in my basement, but not too bad.

not much here in PA. some wind last night and a brief rain. this morning its looking like its going to do something. very dark/windy.

I was thinking about taking a leisurely ride down by the water today and watch the waves. I'll probably take my truck as it has a bit more ground clearance than my Z06....

Ok, now the fun is starting, I've got a slight roof leak in my attic, but I've got some drip pans under it. But I just got an automated call saying we have to boil our water until further notice.

Just got back from Rye beach. Weather isn't too bad yet. But the ocean was pretty crazy.
I counted about 5 crazy bastards out there surfing.
Just talked to my little brother, he's already in his wet suit heading that way.
:bash:

Well, the power's been out here for over an hour and now I'm on the generator so I should be all set for a while. Amazingly enough I have Internet but no power which tells me the electric company may have turned it off intentionally to avoid damage to sub-stations and the like...

Very high winds and rain, almost like a hurricane.....do not use your umbrella boys and girls...

Coming to you live from the eye of the storm. :props:

It got pretty bad here overnight, and I was amazed I got through it without losing power. We hear that over 2 million people on the east coast lost electricity and that it can take 3-4 days before power is fully restored. Man, that's a long time to be without the things that we take for granted. Earthquake and hurricane in the same week. Neither was too bad, considering, but it has been a helluva week.

Looks like we're pretty much done here, rain has stopped but the wind is kicking up a bit more as the tail of the storm comes through. I understand the National Guard has been mobilized to stand by to evacuate residents from the area of my town that is flooded--my friend said he had 5-6' of water in his basement, but not as bad as Floyd.

Pretty much through here too. The rain has subsided but the wind's still blowing and gusting between 40mph and 60mph. I suspect this will continue for a while but the closer we get to 6:00 I think things will start to calm down here....

1 tree down in neighbors yard. Lost power for 1 minute. So far so good.

I have a feeling we haven't seen the worst yet. Looks like western NH is getting it much worse. 13x,xxx without power.

Hopefully with the power companies planning ahead they wont be without for too too long.

Either Irene has gone completely around me...or it's a bunch of hype cause I've seen a whole lot of nothing. There's kids playing in the yard next door right now, ha.

Lots of wind and rain. Uprooted a tree in my yard. Glad it didnt snap it as I can probably replant it. 50 mph gusts with a steady 30-40mph winds here. About 4" of rain total. Areas around me had 12"+, my area had it pretty good.
I figured Id wake up to siding ripped off the house and more damage from the sound of it. I couldnt sleep, finally I just buried my head in a pillow!

Best of all I didnt lose power!
At one point over 800,000 homes in MD didnt have power, still 300,00 or so without. Crazy!

Couple of us broke out the ponchos and tapped a keg. There was a lot of rain, but no real wind until Sunday, which actually ended up being a beautiful day (in Philly anyhow).

Hi all, Irene left NYC sometime sunday......I left my cruiser outside nowhere near any trees. Luckily no damage just so so dirty and brown spots from all the dirty rain and wind. I spent 3 hours yesterday cleaning her and checking all over the car and even under the hood. 3 hours spent washing and waxing my cruiser all nice and shiny black again.

The storm by me was mainly lots and lots of rain and about 50mph winds. No trees down on my block luckily, no power lost and no flooding since I am on top of a hill. Maybe 10 minutes from me flooding everywhere.

The only real damage if that is what you want to call it, is a lot of leaves came down and sticks as well so when it started to really rain the ditch at the end of my driveway got plugged and slightly flooded some of the road and my driveway. It was nothing compared to what happened in other towns around me. Just had to do a heck of a lot of raking and using my leaf blower.

Well, I think I told you guys everything was ok on my end, that it was over. Then the wind kicked up about noon, and the power went out. Was out for 10 hours. My friend Jr's power went out a couple of hours after mine and is still out. Really heavy wind blew in from 6-8 PM or so on Sunday and snapped a bunch of branches.

All in all I got off easy, lot of people here got flooded bad when the river went over the floodwall, and lot of people still without power. Oh, and we're on a boil-water alert perhaps for weeks since the treatment plant got flooded first thing Sunday.

Damn man that's pretty bad. I have some friends who lost power, and it won't be turned back on till Sept 4-6th.

I finally got power back, went out on Saturday night around 10pm. It really makes you think about what you take for granted. (AG forum) :dblthumb2:
