I caught this SOB car salesman trying to pull a fast one...

Dude, this is so shady. Plus his sales manager would have to approve the sale on the loaded and he would have to explain. What a snake.

I thought the same thing. Some folks drift through life on lies and less than admirable morals. It's a shame they'll never experience the rewards of living a life full of honesty and pride.

It wasn't a mistake as the salesman clearly told me before I went to finance that the $395 was the "security package". I didn't question it until I saw it on the actual sales contract. He was VERY well aware of what he was doing!

I see... well regardless, there are many dealerships out there and many more mustangs out there. I still stand by what I said, there is no reason to get worked up. If you do not feel comfortable about the situation, walk away. As you said, you did not sign anything so its not like you have to deal with them. Sorry about your luck, I too have had my share of run-ins with stealerships.

So, I looked over the Mustang sales contract closely before I signed anything. There was optional *security package* that came with the car. It included an alarm and beeping rear sensor if you get to close to something. Anyhow, I noticed on the contract that there was a separate $395 charge for a "theft deterrent system
This sounds to me more like an ignorant salesman. I understand the $100.00 for the glass etching but, the $295.00 is more in line with a charge for paint "Protection" I wonder if theft protection was a mis-nomer. At this point you should ask for the manager and ask him to clarify the charges.

A few years ago I bought a Prius in FL that came with an extra charge $599.00 "Protection" system tht consisted of paint coating, undercoating and etching all the glass panes. They told me a car without the protection package would have to be special ordered and would take 5 weeks. I said fine I am in no rush and will wait. The protection package was deducted immediatly and I bought the car.

He said he would sell me a loaded one just above the dealer cost if I didn't tell his sales manager. The price he gave me is a SMOKING deal. My best friend is a senior car buyer for a Ford Dealer in another state, and he told me that the price quoted truly is just above the dealer cost. It's tempting to take the offer, but I really don't want to give me money to a shady guy like this.

What are you looking at, a 2013 GT 5.0 or BOSS?

What was the eventual price he gave you, PM me if necessary... I'm always in the market, I'm a Mustang fanatic, obsessed with them, thanks man :)

PS: I hate buying cars, these guys are all just deplorable.

Why do they even have fine print on contracts? So intentionally misleading and deceptive, everybody always wants something.

The salesman cannot do much of anything. It is the business manager that draws up the contract that is really the mastermind. The "not telling the manager" is just a scam. The business manager's job is to make money for him and the dealership by upselling over the salesman's price. The manager knows what is going on. They are all into the sell.

The only place I actually enjoy buying a car is Carmax. Super low key, they don't "F" with you in the finance department. When they run your credit report and numbers, they swing the monitor around and show you everything they put into the system and show you every finance option that comes back. It's up to you to choose the finance option you want (or none at all). It's really pretty cool. It's too bad they don't sell too many new cars. They used to sell new Fords in some locations, but I guess they ended that relationship. They do sell new Toyota's in Maryland. I bought my 07 FJ Cruiser from them. Although I've since sold it it and bought a new Dodge Charger. I wish to God Carmax sold new Dodge's close to me. I would have gone to them in a heartbeat rather than deal with the usual BS to buy a new car. I think this entire post is sort of off-topic from the OP's issue, but what the heck!

Remember what they teach you in business law, A contract can be written and signed on a napkin and caveat emptor. Contracts are contracts but lying and hiding it is somewhat a form of fraud. if its too good to be true it is probably not true. simple reading over contracts could mean a better future for yourself in the long run.

dealer prep fee = pure profit to dealer ... its NEVER mandatory and can always be negotiated !

Curious on the 'rock bottom' price he offered you and on what model? Anyway, the whole thing sounds more than a bit transparently shady.

The salesman ended up apologizing sincerely and told me he's the messenger for this type of stuff. It's the damn sales manager who is shady. I didn't get the loaded one, I got one with the brembo package, 3.73's, and 301A package for 32K + fees. According to my research, this is a very good price!

Not for nothing Mark, but the salesman always blames the manager for mistakes because most of the time, you are not dealing with the manager, only the salesman. I don't trust salesman because of my recent endeavor with them. See http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum...n-experience-warning-i-ramble-writting-5.html That was my buying experience

You make it sound like this is an isolated incident or that the salesman wasn't in on it. There is a reason many on here refer to them as "stealerships", this is the way they are run, all of them.

Mustangs dont rust, its gm, remember the bailout you guys accepted. If Ford can sell without being bailed out its a much better company overall

Thanks Mr. Ford, can you please remind us how your company made it through the downturn?

Oh, I remember... Ford went in debt to the tune of $24,000,000,000 before the downturn. They mortgaged EVERY paid for asset including the Blue Oval trademark!

Bottom line... they took a gamble and got lucky.

Ford and GM are both American companies, why not support both and be a true American?:dblthumb2:

Yeah, it's the good cop, bad cop routine. The salesman is going to apologize profusely because he is your friend that is going to fight for you with the sales manager to get you the best deal (yeah, right, he's in cahoots with him to make the most commission). I would love to have a hidden camera in the back room when the salesman says "my manager is going to kill me, but I'll try to get him to approve this". It would go something like this: "hey Steve! what's going on? Nothing, I'm supposed to be arguing with you about this price. What's the score? Oh, the Knicks are still losing...well, I'd better go back out"

"OMG, I really had to fight with him, but because you are such a great guy I got him to approve this price"

Regardless who the shady one is, I eventually got the car I want and the price I want. That's all I cared about.

Wow, Steve. I completely understand what you're feeling!!!!

Yes sir! It was a major headache, problem, everything all wrapped in one. Buttt, just like you, I ended up getting what I wanted for the price I wanted. So it all works out in the end.

On a side note, I used to have an '87 5.0 Notchback. I searched and searched for the perfect exhaust note, and I found that the MAC exhaust was BY FARRR the best sounding exhaust. You get a nice deep tone with no rattle that you normally hear with aftermarket exhausts. I can tell when a mustang drives by that has a MAC exhaust; its just a different and beautiful note. Good Luck with the new car!
