I cause swirls when polishing with DA, what am I doing wrong?

Thank you! I'm doing research almost every day. Even if I don't tackle this in the next month or two, I'm really enjoying doing research and watching videos. And thank you pdqgp for the confirmation.

No problem. I hope you resolve things. Again, reach out to the fellow I linked you to. He's local to you and his history here will show you he's very very good.

Will do, will do. I'll do so when I'm ready to tackle this again, I have his user page open for the future. Thanks again!

You do not need to buy the smaller counterweight. It's only relevant when using it as a sander not a polisher. A smaller plate and pad will spin better but I don't see that as your issue here. All of my corrections shown here have been with 6" pads on the 7424xp. Spins just fine with the right pads thus why I mentioned the Lake Country Thin Pads.

You could be working faster with the 5" set-up. It made a world of difference IME, especially when used with microfiber.

Agree. The pad will spin better and thus correct faster. I only tossed the 6" comment out there as there are many folks including myself that use them. It works fine and so long as the pads are soaking up the product and getting heavy and the user monitors it's spinning they will be fine. I think many forget what Mike has said many times that "thin is in" as often I see folks using thicker pads and combined with over use of product they get frustrated.

My solution was simple, add a Flex 3401 to the mix :)

I have a 6" Autoscrub Nanoskin pad I bought after I clayed the car by hand. I was recommended this pad. I also bought a small handheld block for smaller areas. Question, should I really buy the Nanoskin Glide lube? It's a good value, at a 7:1 ratio a $12 bottle gets you 84oz of lubricant, compared to $8 for 22oz of Megs Ultimate Quik Detailer and a crazy $18 for CG V07 (I do like the stuff though).

Also, second question. I used CG V07 on my car after waxing, my neighbor let me give it a shot and I really like it. Not only for the shine, but for the amazing smell. But it's over twice as expensive as the bigger Megs Ultimate Quik Detailer. Is it better than the latter? Would Nanoskin Glide used in the recommended 10:1 ratio be a good quick detailer that gives a good shine over wax?

So I ended up buying some CG V07, I just love that smell. Maybe a bit of a waste, but I like it a lot.

Huge thanks to WRAPT C5Z06, he sent me a few important supplies to get me started on the right path. I am super grateful! I'll have to give this a shot soon.

Were you using ultimate quik detailer as clay lube? I can't recall if you did. But just so you know, it is not recommended to be used as clay lube. Over on Meguiar's Online, it has been stated that the polymers within UQD are to slick. This will not allow the clay bar to do it's job.

I used the Megs quick detailer that came with the Megs clay bar kit, it's the purple bottle, not the Ultimate black bottle. Claying went well, the paint felt like perfect glass, and even without polishing, I waxed it and quick detail it periodically and it feels amazing. Thanks for the tip though, I had no idea. V07 probably won't do as a clay lube either. I'll be buying some Nanoskin Glide to use as clay lube, and I have a 6" Nanoskin "clay" pad as well as a small block of the same material. Gonna give that a shot next time rather than using traditional clay.

I have endded up using Optimum No Rinse diluted for clay lube..
buying bulk sounds nuts BUT you find a good product and use it in numerous ways.. :-
e.g:-
Rinseless Wash (bucket)
Spray Detailer (as drying aid, as a mid week quick wipe down)
Clay Lube
Waterless wash and wax (add a table spoon of Optimum car wax to a spray bottle).. this i love and keep a mixed bottle in the car with a bunch of MF's
Use it to remove finger prints, and bird poo etc..

So although buting a gallon seems like overkill, when you find a good base product with many uses it makes total sense and saves a fortune..

All the best.. great car, I had one for 2 years in 1999, when i worked for Toyota, same colur black leatehr.. heaps of fun.. sensitive to the correct tyre thos.. Bridgestone Re050's if i recall.. needed stiff sidewall to handle well..

Absolutely, I getcha. I think I'll try the Glide stuff and buy a gallon of it if I like it. I've been looking into Optimum No Rinse, not sure how I feel about it but it seems really promising.

Thank you! They are great. Twitchy, dangerous, but so great.

I am having the same issues you are having except my paint is black :(. I am getting out a lot of the major defects but for some reason the pads are leaving behind micro swirls. I don't think my towels are causing the micro swirls as I am wiping off the polish because they are fresh out of the bag and are pretty good quality (CG). I have tried all different kinds of variations with the chemical guys pads and polishes and I can't seem to get a clear finish on my paint. I have gotten some great advice from a well renowned detailer. His advice to me was to use a MEGS microfiber cutting pad with M105 and then to follow it up with M205 with a yellow/white Rupes pad.

Let me know if you fixed your issue with the swirls you are getting. Maybe it could be pad contamination? Maybe it could be products not working with the paint well? I'm not sure based on all the different opinions I have gotten.
