My pumice stone left white marks on the carpet.
 
Pet hair is the worst. I find the tornador works great for cleaning cloth interiors. Time and the pet brush tool gets most of the dog hair.

Yes and this didn't happen to me. You must be very careful with this tool. I put tape around mine so it doesn't scratch anything as I'm using it.
I've used it on a lot of different cars and I've never had a problem with it on carpet. I'm thinking the marks were pieces of your stone? But that doesn't make sense either. You don't have any pics do you? I'd love to see what your talking abute.
