I just don't get it????

Each morning I approve pending new forum accounts and remove all the spammers. (lots of spammers)

I look at the names people come up with for forum nicknames?????

I just don't get it? Why not use your name, a part of your name or your business name?

Last time I checked everyone joins Facebook with their real name?

All the chatter about "personal security" seems to fly out the window when it comes to Facebook?

The reasons you mention about Facebook is why I have a very small footprint on that platfom and almost never post anything. Too many security risks. As a non-buisness owner, I enjoy the relative privacy here.

If you want to see some interesting nicknames, go over to the automotive blog Jalopnik and read the comments. Long, snarky, witty, and really clever user names are an art form.

Yep, I think it's just about creativity. I wouldn't have an account on Facebook if they paid me.

With the exception of facebook, which (for me) is really only to keep up with separated friends and family, my entire online footprint is under mk9750. I have no problem sharing my real name with many forums and such, but there are plenty of areas on the web I do not want that info on, and as such, I use one web name to identify myself.

Is mine the best way to do things? I have no clue. But it works for me.

BTW, I am Mark

Same here. I've had this user name for as long as ive been on forums (and when I used to play online video games), 18 - 20 years... back in the Delphi days of a offroading forum, TTORA. I don't even think of it anymore, it just use the same user name.

When I went to join Facebook, I TRIED using a forum name. It wouldn't let me. If there is/was a way, I never found it.

I don't bother with Facebook, though. Not a very social person.

I'm not on Facebook and don't use instagram, snap, etc. This is pretty much it for me.

I had my forum nickname for along time, Steelman... Iplay the Pedal Steel Guitar and the dobro reso' steel guitar. My first name Tom is my forum sig'. That's my storey.

I’ve had this internet name for like.. man idk, I think it dates back to when I played online games like Everquest.

It’s basically just who i am online now, lol.

Being that I’m not a widely recognized detailer like you are, Mike, my real name (Steven) just seems irrelevant around these parts.

My name is Dr Oldz. My mom and dad call me Jim for some reason tho.....

I use uncle Davy, TheClutchGuy and the GearboxGuy on different forums because my name is Davy, I used to sell clutches and now I sell gearboxes. I often use a handle because many people wouldn't believe my real name. By the way, I am Davy Crockett.

That’s probably why my autopia account got shot down. Mike what’s difference between autogeek and autopia

User name is a lot like the avatar. It's a way of describing yourself. Who you are, where you came from, where your headed. Plus I think it easier to remember descriptive user names than normal names.

I use my name. I’m old and have been using this one since 2000. Never had any problems.

By the way, my license says "Waxmaster1"

So does your parking spot at the supermarket...

“This parking space is reserved for Thee WaxMaster1”
[no shopping carts allowed within 20’ at all times. Punishable by hefty fine, or 6 months in jail if you commit the sin of leaning against his vehicle] lol.
