Alright guys, this car has a cool story. It's a 1964 Plymouth Savoy that a buddy of mine owned years back. He sold it and the guy who bought it had plans to build it up, but it ended up sitting in a garage under a cover for almost 8 years. My buddy heard it was back up for sale and he bought it back.

Now it just so happens that my buddy is a professional race engine builder and a Mopar expert. This car was slated to join his fleet of drag race cars. He bought it back without an engine and built up a bored out Hemi for it running 12.5:1 compression. For the track it runs C16 fuel, but wait, this car is 100% STREET LEGAL as well. He pulls 8 degrees of timing and runs one gallon of C12 to every 3 gallons of 93 octane for street driving.

Lastly, his oldest son just turned 18 and graduated college, so last week he drives the race car home from the shop. His son goes "I can't believe you actually drove that thing home!" to which he replies "Hold out your hand. Happy birthday." as he gives his son the keys. This was apparently the plan from the get go, he just didn't tell anybody, not even his wife (who is surprisingly not too mad at him).

Anyway... I went over to the shop this week to clean the car up a little bit as a birthday / graduation gift. The paint is not original, but it is more than 30 years old. Thickness reading revealed a lot of areas of probably body work, but no biggie. I rainless washed with ONR and decontaminated with a Speedy Prep medium grade towel, then I used my Rupes 15 with Buff and Shine green pads, HD Speed at speed 5, 3 passes and one no pressure cover pass. It didn't come out perfect, but it's a race car, not a show car, and my buddy was blown away by even the slight improvement.

Here's how she sits after wash / decon:

It's a hemi! That plate has been on many a car over the years Im the MAN

The paint was in overall good shape, just minor surface scratches, but the black part of the hood showed it's age

Very cool. Bet his son will always remember this birthday!

What a fantastic car!

For paint that has been on the car that long it certainly looks good :dblthumb2:

Lucky kid.

Awesome story, love old school!
if he has E85 in his area, he should check it out as the CR is pretty ideal for it

Amazing car. It looks great!

The son graduated from collage at 18!? That's really impressive. Most kids are just finishing high school at that point.

Sorry, meant high school :-p

Yeah, he doesn't do e85, he runs actual leaded race fuel.
